Is that add legal in the US? Couldnt McD sue them over copywrite infringement for using their logo?

I think now since the battle against cigarettes is all but a huge success, the next great 'evil' we will see demonized is unhealthy food.
Its so ridiculous, if adults want to consume reasonably unhealthy food; let them.
Maybe we could deal with the reasons behind the success of fast food, the fact is eating healthy costs more, people are working way too much and have little time to prepare healthy meals, and learning about healthy food/cooking isn't a part of the education system which feeds our kids CRAP, sugar filled drinks/food with empty calories.
So lets start there instead of demonizing fast food, lets just call out the personal responsibility people have for their own health.

I think its a great ad. They just had a program here on talk radio about it. They suggested that it is meant to assume all fast food, but used McDs because they are the biggest chain and biggest offender.
Those opposed suggested it isnt the chains responsibility to let people know what they are eating, it is the responsibility of the person to understand what they are eating. I call BS on that....
I didn't want to contaminate the first post so that there could be discussion on either side, so here are my thoughts:
Seems like an extension of US partisanship. Tobacco, Politics, Abortion, Drugs...and now fast food. If you're not with us, you're against us. I don't mind the idea of a public interest group buying an ad so we can have a real conversation - but this isn't going to lead to that. All you get is the extremes on the right and the extremes on the left shouting over each other.
In terms of whether it's a good ad or not...I don't think so. It's only attracting attention because it's loud and obnoxious. Believe it or not, being subtle often works better than loudness in marketing. I would have preferred if there was no burger in hand and they had waited until the end to do the reveal. Furthermore, I don't see the a very strong connection between feet and the McDonald's arch...maybe they could have had the doctor saying something?

/back to my Veggie Burger.
But look at the truth, you can order a salad at earls thats worse than eating a Big Mac combo.
You can eat most entree's at restaurants that's over 1500-2000 calories in one plate, in fact there was a meal at I think Moxies that held over 3000 calories.
Yet most people sitting there eating their food have no clue and probably sit around talking about how bad Mcdonalds is.

I think the sell from McDonald's to vegetarianism is a tough one. Good luck hippies.
I was thinking this too. Maybe they should have picked some sort of middle ground for an intial phase. Going from gobbling McD's at a rate thats good enough to kill to eating nothing that casts a shadow is a bit of a steep progression to expect from anyone.

they suggested on the radio program that is meant for all fast food joints, they just used McDonald's as the prime example. They are abhored, as I am, at the blatant advertising towards our youth and the fact that they have no idea what it is they are consuming. They point at McDonalds for using toys and playgrounds to get kids in to eat their crap followed by jumbo Mom and Pop following up with a Big Mac and extra large fries.
I guess if a family eats at Moxies once a month its not going to kill them, although they may feel bloated and full of gas for the next week, but there are a TON of people who use the drive thru at various fast food joints multiple times per week.

these guys seem to have a vegan/anti-meat agenda. Receive funding from PETA
Outside of PETA...nothing wrong with being a Vegetarian/Vegan, and far more healthy in the long run. Seems the MEAT lobby is out in full force in "Cowtown". LOL

Give me a break, calling me the MEAT lobby is bull****. I have nothing against a vegetarian/vegan diet, but don't tell me that it is the only healthy way of living. I would have the same comment about someone saying that the only healthy diet is a high protein diet.
This is an organization that promotes an agenda under the guise of medical advice, just because they call themselves a "Physicians Committee"

But the problem isn't Mcdonalds having toys, yes its a marketing gimmick aimed directly at the kids. Its the fact poor people and lower income families are usually struggling to feed their families and fast food is a necessary evil.
Besides all that, lets look at our schools and what kids are eating/drinking. How about we stop giving kids fries/hamburgers with pops every day of the week, and teach them to enjoy healthy food. Have real cooking classes to teach them about good food, fresh food, not processed crap. Jamie Oliver is doing just that in his native country and its a battle to say the least.

But why do they use it so often? When you look at the reasons, which health professionals do it is always, cost, time, and convenience.
People work way too much, have little free time. Our workforce is getting payed less, given less time off and you need both parents working in order to make ends meet. We have a society in North America where its built on screwing the middle class and lower classes for the benefit of wealthy people.
You look at European countries which eat much healthier, you see more free time, less work hours with the same or better productivity. The cultures are obsessed with food, but of course mostly good food. You are brought up learning about and loving food.
In North America you are brought up to fear food, feel guilty about even enjoying it. Its a mental disorder out there, and we subsidize farmers who grow corn which means cheaper softdrinks, cheaper fast food, etc.. all the while really good food receives much less help and costs more, thus is out of the budget of tens of millions.
Theres a very real link between your wealth and your health.

Nonsense. Greek's, Italians are famous for being food lovers who eat meat, vegetables and live long and healthy lives.
There is nothing wrong with meat, biologically speaking, there's a whole other debate about the ethics, I respect your right to not eat meat because of that.
Iceland for example wouldn't have people living here if it wasn't for fish. Countless Islands around the world need the sea to live off of, but I suppose those people are unethical haters of animals right

Nutrition information is made available though at restaurant locations and online, so it's not like they are hiding anything. Additionally, eating a hamburger at McDonalds is not going to kill you if it is done in moderation, and everyone knows this. I don't understand why people are incapable of taking responsibility for their actions. Ads may entice a consumer to purchase a certain product, but they don't infringe on that consumer's free will. If someone chooses to have a poor diet, then that is on them and no one else.
At any rate, this ad is pretty brutal. It would be one thing if they were advocating eating healthier, but they aren't. They are advocating that eating meat is wrong and are lying that a vegetarian diet is healthier. Had they ended this ridiculous ad by saying something like "Tonight, make it in your kitchen" rather than "make it vegetarian" then I could attempt to look past their alarmist views and consider their message. For some reason, the vegan/vegetarian groups are among the most smug, dishonest people around.
