Default Hines Ward (Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver) appointed to Obama Advisory Commission

Story on Commission appointment:
Quote:
Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward has had plenty of speaking engagements in his time, but he said his appearance Tuesday before a packed auditorium in the U.S. Capitol was the toughest.

Ward said he was nervous and humbled in brief remarks after being sworn in as a member of President Barack Obama's Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Cool story from 2006 about his roots:

Quote:
At school, they taunted him for his looks — half-black, half-Asian. "Jackie Chan!" they'd say. "Bruce Lee-roy!" At home, he didn't understand why his mother struggled with English, couldn't help him with his homework and made him take his shoes off before he walked in the door.

"I was a lost child," Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward says. "I wasn't accepted in the black community because I was Korean, and I wasn't accepted in the Korean community because I was black." He blamed his Korean mother for the teasing he got on the playground in suburban Atlanta. "I was ashamed of the person who instilled everything in me. I let the kids get the better half of me."

This couldn't happen to a better individual. What a stand up guy on and off the field.

He's not the most flashy receiver out there but is one of the most consistent and the best blocking receiver in the league, just as Keith Rivers.

Off the field? Yes.

On the field? You're joking right? He's consistently picked as one of the dirtiest playersin the league. Now I happen to like that about him, but I wouldn't describe his on-field persona as "stand up".

I guess I'm just biased towards him, I did a google search for dirtiest players in the NFL and his name constantly comes up. Either way I love him. Heart and Soul of that team.
