Default PS3 Internet Connection Problem?

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble connecting my PS3 onto the network here. I'm using an ethernet cable right now and it's not detecting PSN at all although it has the IP address. Problem is, I'm at a university residence and I don't really know how to work my way around it so I can get into PSN and online games. Any suggestions?

Your ethernet cable that is connected to the PS3 is connected to what? a switch or router somewhere? or directly to the cable modem?

I am guessing that you are plugged into a router, which is giving you an IP address but that router is either not connected to the cable modem or your cable modem is not working.

Do you have internet through any other device in the house? If so, how is that device connected?

The connection is supplied by the University I assume, is it possible they block PSN?

Go under settings, Network settings, then do a connection test. It'll tell you where the problem lies, whether it's your own network, PSN, etc.

For what it's worth I've had trouble connecting to PSN all night. Not sure if it's coincidence. It's usually pretty solid.

There was a maintenance up date last night that caused PSN to be down!
