Default Circle the cat - game

Looks easy... but it is actually quite difficult.

Good time-waster

So I circled it. . . . and nothing happened.

Just re-started, same as if it escaped.

At first I thought it was impossible. After slowing down and thinking about it, I can almost solve every game, and I'm pretty sure every game it is possible to circle the cat.

The cat's algorithm (selects the shortest pathfinding direction to escape) is too advanced for my stupid brain.

The only way to beat it is to keep pressing reset until you get a favorable map.

Oh, this is a very old game, but really well done. I can win pretty much every game. I find the best strategy is to build a wall with lots of holes in it, and then close those holes only when you need to. If you close the holes early, the cat will just head the other way.

I can't seem to win an open field, unless I guess the cat's direction right on the first one I put down.

Got 3 in the first 10 tries.

You got to have a map which forces in to a nice clumping of dots to buy you time to circle it.

I can go about 7/10. Sometimes the cat is just going to win. The trick is to block the easiest route along his hex at the edge. When he shifts block the next one. He'll either shoot the gap or look for a new exit. If he shoots the gap you build a porous net that you infill as needed. If he does something different you hope the random blocks come in handy, and only close the gap when you need to.

I managed to complete the circle once out of about 40 attempts - but then I am old, female and quite, quite stupid. And with that in mind I will continue playing the game as I rather like shouting at my computer screen.

Took me a while to get the hang of it. Seemed extremely hard at first.
