Default Custom skates anyone?

This is pretty cool. There's been talk about these skates called MLX skates, which are the same ones Evgeni Malkin has been wearing the whole season, if anyone noticed. These skates are customizable in numerous ways which is pretty sweet considering I've always had problems with skates. Oh, and on the website it says you can sign up for a chance to be a tester and get a free pair!?!? http://mlxskates.com/index.php

Good luck getting a tester pair without being on a pro roster or high profile junior level roster.

Good luck getting them if you're a junior player.

I'm intrigued though. Having custom skates would be cool.

Any company will do it if you're willing to pay.

So what exactly do they customize? the boot? or can they adjust the position of the blade too?

they can pretty much customize anything. most companies will offer a range of forefoot and heel width/sizes, and offer 1/4 sizes. so, your right boot can be larger than say your left boot. total customized based on your measurements and skating styles and needs. they will even use different blades (ex. rbk with tuuk) if you want.

I have customized Easton's, I got them through sports swap when they were still around. They are a pro model different tongue, blades and better toe guards.

Oh, I wasn't sure with Easton because I've never seen a custom order sheet, everyone around here wants Bauer or Graf.

That's pretty cool but it seems like it would be a bit pricey if you want a top of the line skate customized. I mean I can see paying $600 for the X60s but $750 might be overkill.

The ability to do 1/4 sizing, independent sizing for each foot and custom features like thick felt tongues, extra/fewer eylets and overstuffed ankle pads is awesome. It can be the best way to get a truly personalized skate fit. I would do it if I had the cash and a wife who would understand the purchase.

This thread makes me bow my head in shame at the thought of my $25 used skates from the hockey shop.

Yeah that seems like it would be good when you need something like that, but its kind of unnecessary if you have same size feet, and I've never heard anyone complain about the amount of eylets are on their skates lol. But yeah these MLX skates have adjustable blade holders that you do yourself, and a replaceable tongue so you can have the kind you want, without the extra $150. Also I think they have a top of the line material in the boot that molds to your feet better than other skates out their. I don't know, do they use a different material in the boot to mold to your feet better when you get custom fitted skates?
