Ducks make 2 deals
On a night with plenty of trade talks, Ducks GM Patel made 2 deals. At least 1 more deal if not 2 are expected to be announced in the coming days. The first deal caught most people by surprise as the Ducks shipped out 3rd line defender Todd Marchant, leaving only Nigel Dawes to step up. Clearly this downgrades the team a lot but the return was good enough to justify the move according to GM Patel. Here is how this deal broke down.
To the Ducks:

To the Oilers:

The Ducks ended up saving 500k on Marchants contract but more importantly brought in a good young player in Yip. He did well last year for the NHL Avs before getting injured but then returned and grabbed 4 pts in 6 playoff games for the team. Sure he isn't a blue chip or anything but he has had brief success at the NHL level and hopefully will continue to improve.
The second deal was a pretty even swap of players as the Ducks brought in Jeff Schultz. Schultz is outstanding defensively and is needed on a blue line that features several offensive Dmen already in Giordano, Doughty and Weber.

Burlon is also a nice prospect to add to the ECHL that maybe one day will do something. Really though Schultz is expected to anchor a 2nd pairing with Giordano, meaning Shea Weber could be on his way out of town!
