Default Professional Development

So, my company offers a ton of these professional development seminars (free for employees) and I always thought I'd be wasting company time on it, but I was recommended to take one of these from a senior from my group. Anyone take one of these and what do they think? (For ref, I'm a engineer... do technical babble in a cube farm, I don't really work with clients or in a team or anything)

(another downside, i guess I have to be at work by 830am)

INCREASING PERSONAL POWER: THE ART AND SCIENCE OF POSITIVE INFLUENCE

xxx
Time: 8:30am to 5:30pm
xxx

Program Description:
This program presents an entirely new way of using influence in business interactions
through understanding power dynamics. You will develop the ability to handle a variety
of business situations by learning how to manage the Invisible Power Conversation
TM in the first 90 seconds of every interaction. You will learn how to influence others
through your personal power rather than having to use your positional power to get things
done.

In this highly interactive, one-day program you will receive intensive personalized
coaching from a professional coach and peers. You will also receive videotaped feedback
of your progressive improvement during the day. As a result of participating in this
program, you will develop the skills to get your ideas across more effectively, get more
of what you want more easily and with less hassle!

Comments From National Participants
"I found the personal critique and feedback extremely valuable in helping me change
  • my approach to influencing others to achieve business and personal objectives."

  • communication situations. Since completing the course, I have been able to more
positively influence my boss, those who work for me and my peers."
"I enjoyed this class and learned a lot about how I project myself to others. An eye
  • opening class."

The most important thing about any of these seminars is whether they serve, at a minimum, muffins and coffee.

This is an all day thing, so lunch should be included. You should contact the course providers to confirm before you sign up.

As a manager someone who has an interest in personal development stands out....as long as it doesn't impact their deliverables.

I'd be all over it...even if its just for the optics

The learnings and the muffins are just gravy

Alot of these courses have a foundation in communication. Sounds simple enough but better communication at work and at home can be a real plus. If your single you might even have more luck with the ladies!!
