Default (NEW) Music Recommendations

** Disclaimer: Please forgive me if a thread like this already exists, if it does the search feature let me down. **

Hey all... I'm in dire need of some new tunes. I don't think I've bought a new album in ages... mostly just listen to the radio in my car but it's starting to let me down on a more than regular basis.

Typically I'm a fan of rock/alternative rock/hard rock/modern rock... whatever you want to call it. Anywhere from the rock-side of pop to punk to metal I guess you'd say.

Anyone have any more obscure/unkown bands along this genre with recent album releases or even some more mainstream stuff that's come out recently? Need to restock.

If a thread like this doesnt already exist... figured it could be along the lines of the movie thread. If it does exist already, please point me towards it (as mentioned the search engine failed me if that's the case). I understand music is VERY subjective, but basically if you liked a recent release of something - post it its genre.

Thanks for the help everyone

Let it kick in before you decide.

They're a pretty unique Danish band that is getting more well known slowly.

I listen to a lot of "of rock/alternative rock/hard rock/modern rock" myself...

What are some bands you like, so I can know what to suggest?

I like the Volbeat stufff...

another podcast to check out is "garage band hard rock top tracks" for ideas.

edit: all of garage band podcasts might be worth checking out...

edit2: garage band podcasts don't seem to be working for me, so I'm not sure what is up with them.

They've put out 3 albums since 2005 and have another one coming out next month. All their albums so far have been consistently good too.

Lots of new modern rock on this guys show, along with dance, top 40. Huge emphasis on new music. Zane Lowe is very respected in the industry.

As an example, Arcade Fire leaked their first two singles to him. Go through the track lists and listen to a few of the shows in the media player. Anyone I've ever showed this guy to has been extremely happy I did. Probably the strongest radio DJ out there.

Brand New is one of my favourite bands. They're sort of melodic rock at times, and hard rock at others. One of the best albums of the past decade, in my opinion, is The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me.

I find that the new Stars album The Five Ghosts is really good, not quite as good as Set Yourself on Fire. That's pretty indie stuff.

For hip-hop, a Canadian kid out of London Ontario, Shad, is one of the BEST artists I've heard in a long time. His new album Tsol is great

Russic got me listening to Frightened Rabbit who are another indie type of band that I've really enjoyed.

There's a band out there that I randomly stumbled upon called The Xx. It's really mellow music but for some reason I can't stop listening to it. This song is pretty phenomenal, just listen to it...most of you will figure out what I'm talking about. Let yourself get to the 55 second mark, trust me.

Not to derail this thread but can someone recommend some good jazz bands out there? More instrumental I think but I am open to whatever.

Oh and another excellent Mumford and Sons song:

The National : This song is amazing! Good album also! One of the best this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg0rWgs2r2Q BSS : A few good songs on an otherwise disappointing new release

Couldn't find the better acoustic youtube of this...

I was listening to NME in the Spring but got bored of music this year for some reason. If you go through their playlist it usually has some good stuff. CBC R330 is also good if you can handle Craig Norris....

+1, tried to give it a shot but wasn't really feeling it at all. I do like "I found a whistle" though.
