Default Ville Leino finds new home

The Wild have traded Ville Leino along with Alex Chiasson, Radko Gudkas and a 4th round pick to the Red Wings. Coming back are a 2011 1st and a 2011 2nd.

GM Farhall
"From an asset standpoint we felt this was the right move. Ville's value has been a roller coaster since we signed him years ago - and being able to turn him into a 1st round pick makes a lot of sense since he has yet to establish himself as a full time CPHLer."

That could be a nice 1st to get as well. The wings can easily finish 4th in our division which wouldn't translate into a good overall standing position.

However they might surprise and finish 1st...IMO our division is that much up in the air. Overall a good gamble by Grant and well worth it.

I like this move for Wings. The pick won't be top 5, and imo will be around 15th but you never know what can happen.

To get players like Leino(huge potential, shown by his playoffs) and Chiasson not a bad prospect for that pick is a nice deal for the Wings.

While I get the idea that the first could be anywhere between 1 and 30, I think this is huge for Grant. Leino may or may not continue his playoff ways (see Pisani). He gets to bolster his collection of kids. And potentially makes room for another kid to come off the prospect list soon, rather than hope that Leino pans out.

Amazing deal for Grant, IMO.

Leino has been a guy Ive been trying to get for awhile. I don't know if you can say who won this deal until they have played a few months of NHL hockey. If he continues to get decent ice time this season with Philly rather than being buried on Detroit's fourth line it should pay off. Bit of a risk but one I was willing to take.

I look at it as Leino/Chiasson (good prospect taken 38th overall in 09) for my 1st

and 4th/Gudkas (who was just taken 66th in the past draft) for the St Louis 2nd
