Before I feel sorry for him, I need to know the back story.

If the backstory is he had a crazy roomate who spazzed out on him for something stupid than my sympathy level rises for him (we have all had roomates that go a little crazy over dumb things - maybe not torture me for a year crazy but...)

Is the backstory...he raped someones kid and the guy decided to take matters into his own hands instead of let the courts handle it then my sympathy for this guy would drop from wherever it is in the >0 territory to <0 territory.

Well if it was over drugs which wouldnt surprise me. Its sort of what happens when you don't pay up. Especially when you're involved with known gangsters.

Just because something "sort of happens" when you don't pay up doesn't mean it was right or the guy should get any less sympathy for being tortured by drug dealers.
