Looking for nice lounge/pub for post-wedding reception...
Hey folks.
Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a decent lounge or even pub that I could take some family to after my sister's wedding on Saturday Sept 4th. Also, some advice/knowledge from people who work/worked in a lounge or some such place.
17th ave, downtown or Kensington would be the preferred locations. We will all be wearing suits/dresses. Most of them have been to Calgary only once or twice.
There will be about 10-15 of us. We range in age from 18-28 but most of them are in the 20-24 range.
Considering how many of us there are I need a place that can accommodate us or possibly even save space for us. We will probably be arriving around midnight, maybe 1230.
I have 2 main questions:
1)What kinds of places are best for this? No nightclubs (whiskey, cowboys etc). Lounge preferably, but we don't want bottle service or to pay $8.50 for a beer. Maybe a pub but like I said we'll all be dressed to the nines.
2)If the place has cover/line we need no line, no cover. If it doesn't I need to be able to guarantee that there will be room for all of us, whether I have to book a room/reserve a table or whatever. Do places charge for this? Is it even possible to arrange? We certainly won't be racking up a massive bill because we will already have had some beverages but I'm sure we'll spend $20-40 per person for the hour or two we'll be there. (12/1230 - 2am)
It doesn't have to be a super trendy lounge or anything. We aren't overly rowdy but most of us will be drinking/drunk.
Thanks in advance. If any of you should happen to work in an establishment that could suit my needs and want to help out a CPer just send a PM my way and maybe something could be arranged.

If you're in the SW, you can't go wrong with Strathos bar and grill

The ceremony and reception are on the other side of the city so that is a bit far to travel.

I was joking, the place is a dive
Seriously though, if it's a young group, can't go wrong with the Yardhouse in Kensington proper

I did Local 510 (on 17th) on my birthday with a pretty decent sized group, booked the upstairs room and it was awesome.

Have you tried Crush lounge on 12th and 12th? It's pretty nice and they do reservations for big groups for sure. The food is good and I've always had a great time there. It's around the corner from me so an easy choice

Melrose
We have called for a large group reservations in the past and never had any issues. Give them a shout... they may be able to accomodate your group in the back area on the first floor of the 'bar' area.

Unfortunately Melrose isn't quite what I'm looking for. A little too pub like.

Maybe Classic Jack's then? Couple blocks down from Melrose, alot classier, nice sized place, no cover and they will allow you to reserve tables if you have a big enough group coming in. I go there alot and never fail to have a good time.

So far I think Crush is most like what I'm looking for. Good beer selection, reasonably nice looking.

Is the Met on 17th still open? That might suit your needs.
Alternatively, I hear that West (restaurant/lounge/club) is the new place to go to from my younger co-workers. Downtown off Stephen Ave.

I would say Ming on 17th would be a good spot, but with that late arrival I doubt you could have the 'Red Room' reserved for your party. That and the drinks do tend to cost around the $8-10 mark.
^^^ West is a good choice too, I haven't been there on a weekend so not too sure how busy they get. It's a big space and I'm sure they could accomodate.
