Newsweek mag came out today with their ratings of best/worst countries.

Generally speaking, Finland is #1, Canada#7 and the US #11.

The lists are further broken down into specific categories such as health care, education, etc.

Didn't see the list on the link provided (maybe too lazy to look more)
How many of the top 10 countries are hockey countries?
Hockey represents the sport of civilization. (even with hockey fights)

For when Newsweek pushes the article off the front page... http://www.newsweek.com/feature/2010...countries.html

Australia's #4, suckas. Think Canada with sunshine.

Just kidding. "Best" is such a relative concept on a topic like this, it's all relative to what you value in your life. In my travels so far, Canada is still the best country for me, I can't imagine not eventually ending up back there.

I noticed both Bosnia and Serbia are not in the top 100.

Does it say somewhere why some countries were excluded? I mean, I know both have their challenges, but they have to be ahead of coutries like Mozambique and Burkino Faso.

It has the highest skin cancer rate too doesn't it? And it's expensive and, as one of my clients said recently, "they fry everything there."

Never been!!!

I was reading somewhere that Canada was #1 in the world in the amount of 25-45 year olds with any type of degree. This list rates Canada as #3 in the world in education... so that is nice to see.

I love Australia, and honestly, Mel's description of "Canada with sunshine" is pretty appropriate. I would live there without hesitation if the opportunity ever arose.

The only things I'd miss in Canada would be hockey and my family, and frankly, I spend more time per year with the Flames than I do my family, so I'd probably miss them more.

After going through this newsweek somehow I stumbled upon a WIKI article on Silvio Berlusconi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvio_Berlusconi

I have to admit I laughed out loud two or three times during this article. Mostly in the Blunder's and slip-ups part. Definitely a Fan.

I've heard that Australia was indeed similiar to Canada in many ways, very beautiful. Great for vacations too - definitely on my list of places to visit soon for holidays.

Interstingly I do recall that Australia is also worse than Canada for housing unaffordability. Some of the larger cities have housing costs of about 7-9 times median income (http://www.demographia.com/dhi.pdf)

Heck ING over there has even introduced long term housing loans where people JUST pay interest and nothing on the principal(http://www.news.com.au/money/propert...-1225870019522)

Not surprised to see four Scandinavian countries in the top 10. It's awesome there. I wish I spoke Swedish, I'd move there tomorrow.

You could give the west coast a whirl. Relatively mild winters albeit constant drizzle or overcast for 5 months. It more than makes up for it though the rest of the year. Absolutely gorgeous.

Just curious, what temp is tooooo damn cold for a southerner like yourself?
