Default WEEK 5: STAMPS vs Riders

Two struggling QB and 2 struggling offense. Henry Burris doesn't seems to be in sync with his receivers the last 4 games. Stamps lost 2 games in a close games and they also won the 2 games on the close games. Riders lost 3 games so far and won against the Alouettes last week. Durant is defintely missing his go-to-guy and Stamps killer Andy Fantusz. They still have Chris Getzlaf and Dressler though another players who seems to be playing well against the Stamps.

OFFENSE:

I think after 4 games, it is time for Burris and his receivers to start playing well. The last 4 games, Burris was either overthrowing or under-throwing the receivers. It doesn't help when Burris is right on target, the receivers are the ones who run the wrong route or they drop the ball. Dickerson needs to start using Joffrey Reynolds and Jon Cornish as another options on offense along with Burris' legs. The last 4 games, the RB hasn't been used as much as they are supposed to be. Burris on the other hand hasn't been using his legs as much doing QB sneak. Offensive linemen should be playing well by now after playing together 4 games already.

DEFENSE:

Defense just lost a few starters. MLB Juwan Simpson will be out tonight's game and Robert McCune will take his place as an MLB. Stamps also lost backup non-import LB Karl McCarthy also lost injuries. Probably the strength for the Stamps was their Defense so far this early season. They seems to be doing their job. Even though DB Brandon Smith and the rest of the DBs get burn once in awhile, they tend to come back and adjust and play well late in the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Kicker Rene Paredes struggled last game and hopefully he'll bounced back. Winnipeg did a good job punting or kicking away from Larry Taylor last game. I can see Riders doing the same way in this game. That means Johnny Forzani, Morley, Parker and other player will have to step up.

Game will be played in Mosaic Stadium tonight.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

Stampeders need to mix up plays on offense and not be one-dimensional pass-pass-pass. We have two of the best running back in the CFL in Reynolds and Cornish and one of the best running QB in Burris. Burris is dangerous when he's got a lot of options. He can run the ball if he has to or do a QB sneak. Or he can throw the ball short and let Nik Lewis and Rambo do their thing, or he can throw a deep ball to Bryant or Forzani. Keep the Riders' defense guessing all night.
On defense, pressuring Darian Durant usually works wonder. He gets rattled when someone is on his face all the time and he tend to make some bad decision. No Fantusz to throw to...

I can feel that this is the game Stamps offense will explode and score at least 3 TD majors. Burris will throw 300+ yards and Reynolds will get over 100+ yards rushing. Defense will get at least 2 QB sacks and maybe 2+ interceptions as well.

Let the games begin!!! GO STAMPS GO!!!

I noticed that more and more teams are using shotgun formations these days. What is the advantage of the shotgun formation than the traditional formation where the QB is just behind the centre?

BC was using the direct snap out of the shotgun..it seemed to work "ok" Also it can give you more time VS fast rushing teams and teams that blitz a lot.

Just found this.

Quote:
Use in Canadian football
At times the formation has been more common in Canadian football, which allows only three downs to move nine yards downfield instead of the American game's four. Canadian teams are therefore more likely to find themselves with long yardage to make on the penultimate down, and therefore more likely to line up in the shotgun to increase their opportunities for a large gain. Teams such as the Saskatchewan Roughriders use the shotgun for a vast majority of their plays.
