That's great! Always wondered who did those -- it's clear he really thinks hard about the people, their emotions and the flow he creates with the vids. Lots of people seem to try doing that stuff -- not so many succeed. He does, in spades.

I've been following him on Twitter for a few seasons. My wife is slowly learning to leave me the hell alone when I'm watching a HNIC intro. One of my favourites was when the Jets came back and he used The Watchmen (although if memory serves, he only picked the song for that video).

I love the HNIC montages. I think it's one of the few things CBC does better than TSN, despite TSN's bigger budget productions. They're really able to capture the spirit of the game, and what it means to Canadians that TSN has never been able to do for me. For some reason, I find TSN's take on Canadian pride fake and over the top. Their WJC coverage is a prime example of that.

CBC's "end of the playoffs" montages are great -- wasn't a big fan of the music used for last year's version but the 2010 (Chicago over Philly) and 2011 (Boston over Vancouver) ones were awesome.

His two best montages were the ones for Games 3 and 7 of the 2011 Finals.

I remember watching that one with my Manitoban in-laws with The Watchmen tweeting about the song being used mere minutes before the montage came on. The band was quite proud of the song being used for the montage.

I doubt it was this guy, but whoever did the opening for Game 6 of the SCF 2004 played his part in the jinx that night..."Feels Like the First Time" by Foreigner...nowhere online, but on my trusty VHS which I may upload in some format.

Nice read. I've always liked the montages on CBC. The only thing that could use improvement is the music selection though.

I wouldn't be surprised if TSN tries to snag this guy away from CBC...

Yup, good - great editors edit to the music. Most however just throw the music in as an after thought. Nice job on that one. The hard part would be getting all that great footage!

They both lay it on too thick, but CBC a little more so IMO.

That's a negative. The music selection is a huge part of the awesomness of these montages.

Those vids just have everything you love about this game, everything you love about sports.

Great highlights and all kinds of human emotion.

They're so good, I could watch them all night long.

Listening to that garbage announcer Jim Houghson ruins that first video, screaming like a a complete moron when Burrows scores.

Twenty four years ago tonight, this was played...(though the end is wrong and was cutoff...the original has the team pouring on the ice, Lanny drinking from Cup etc).

Good times.

How dare an announcer raise his voice for a Game 7 OT goal. What a complete jackass.
