Robbery detectives are investigating a home invasion in an upscale northwest Calgary community where a man had his ear cut off.
About 9 a.m. four masked suspects broke through a door into a home on Sherwood Common.
They attacked the lone man inside, sending him to hospital with what police describe as minor injuries.

So did he have his ear cut off or minor injuries because I don't know about the cops definition but I would think that if my ear was cut off it would be more than just minor injuries.

Having your ear cut off is a minor injury. Might not look nice but you're at no risk of serious injury.

It's only a minor injury as far as the police and press are concerened. A lot of injuries sustained from car accidents that aren't deemed bad enough to be put under "serious injuries" look pretty damn serious to me.
Scary...at least it wasn't deemed to be random. Live a clean life and live. Who knows what the circumstances are...on the news, they showed the home and there was a Hummer in the driveway equipped with tires/rims that are worth more than my car. Could be drugs, could be gambling debts, could be loan sharking, could have knocked up the wrong baby sister/daughter...who knows...?
It was speculated in a thread on beyond that the guy in question is the owner of Speedtech

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
You don't just break in to steal and then randomly decide to cut a dude's ear off. (Especially with 4 guys).
Random B+E theives want to get in and out as quickly and as safely as possible. You don't just add a whole slew of serious charges just for the fun of it.
