Default Bragging about speeding in a BMW forum lands man in legal trouble

http://www.calgarysun.com/news/canad.../14978686.html

Quote:
An American man who saw the message on the website called police on April 9 with the information. That kicked off an investigation that culminated in the arrest of Rigenco on April 16.
Rigenco was sentenced Thursday to a six months driving prohibition, 12 months probation and a $1,000 fine after pleading guilty to careless driving.
I think some people on here should think twice before they discuss any illegal activities from now on.

I think the person who tattle-tailed on him should be slapped IMO.

Often, I get my Yaris going at about 210 km/h just outside Cochrane. That baby sure can fly.

The guy was going 100km/hr over the speed limit in a residential area. He deserves to be ratted out.

Because his parents can't say no to him.

Why not? Not all BMW's are $60,000 machines. You can get a good used one for under $5,000.

Speeding like that in a residential area is a hell of a lot different than discussing vaporizers.

Still don't know how it lead to his arrest; Article doesn't mention anything relating to other evidence etc. Would be interesting to know how they used the online info.

Driving through a residential area at that speed is no joke, but arresting him for talking about it is. A 19 year old bragged about something on the internet ... and we're assuming he isn't full of BS why? The lawyer's opening and closing statement: Pics or it didn't happen.

Now I know it isn't exactly the same but I know of several occurrences of friends of mine getting stunting and speeding tickets based on nothing but complaints from random people. Albeit this was in a small town just outside of Calgary but nevertheless it can happen.

The difference there is the presence of witnesses to corroborate the story. Based on what we have here the guy could very well have been making the whole thing up. I'm guessing this was more a matter of putting a name to a vehicle that had been complained about by witnesses and that part just didn't make it into the story for whatever reason.

Hopefully he said "I fly through this neighborhood every evening" and then the cops waited to catch him in the act. If you could be arrested based solely on what you said you did, every rapper would be in prison.

Agreed. I'm willing to bet there were numerous witnesses in his community that saw him driving like an ahole.

This will probably get tossed in court. I can't imagine a judge accepting an internet posting as a confession. Especially considering the internetz are srs bizniz.
