Default 100th Indianapolis 500 goes today.

Canadian Alex Tagliani had the pole position for the race today. This used to be the premier auto racing even in North America. I used to be a fan of the Cart series until Greg Moore's untimely passing. But since that than the disupte with Cart/IRL, I lost pretty much all my interest. But it's been a big historical race, and 100 years is a real bench mark for North American sporting events.

Well I doubt they've had many crazier finishes than that in 100 years. Leader crashes on the final corner unchallenged allowing Wheldon to blow by for the win.

I'm the same. Greg Moore's death greatly reduced my interest in the sport.

I couldn't watch the end, but I saw the beginning. Power's crew letting him go with just three tires bolted down was pretty funny. I'll have to find a highlight of the end. That's gotta suck for the driver who crashed.

Pretty scary actually, as it looked like that tire rolled through at least two pit crews. I still haven't heard if anyone was hurt.

I don't think anyone was, though yeah, the one guy in the second pit pretty much body blocked the tire.

That was some 'agony of defeat' right there.

Res, was the rookie too aggressive there going into 4? With such a massive lead, why not just coast in?

I don't claim to be a racing expert, but based on what they were talking about on the broadcast, I'd say he was too aggressive out of the corner. He was up high on the pass, where all the rubber balls (marbles) off the tires had gathered. He was probably too hard on the throttle, and lost traction. A vet would have backed off a little - better to sacrifice speed for stability given his lead.

Well that's amusing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was leading the Coca Cola 600 NASCAR race into the final corner.... and ran out of gas.

Two devastating losses at the very end in one day.
