Getting "married" in October in Mexico but need to be officially married here prior to our trip. I have been voluntold to figure out what needs to be done but being my lazy self, I figured I would deligate to those at CP. Any help or advice would be appreciated as always.

Yours truely,

Um, don't get married at all? Can't think of a lazier solution than that.

Or call anyone from the list (http://www.servicealberta.ca/1156.cfm), make an appointment, and its a done deal.

An ex-friend of mine did the same thing about 5 years ago. I think what they did in Mexico was called a renewal of vows, or something to that effect. One week prior to flying out the happy couple went to a JP's house and got married after a short civil ceremony, which was attended by two witnesses. A few things were said, a few things were signed and bingo, bango, they were married. I had the mis-fortune of being one of the witnesses and funnily enough, less than a year after the wedding, I had nothing more to do with him.

I guess all you have to do is contact a local JP and make a few inquiries, but more importantly if you have already picked out a resort/hotel where you are going, then that place should have a 'wedding director' that you can ask questions of. I heard all about this stuff from my ex-friend. It seems pretty straight forward, but talk to the hotel and find a JP.

Good luck.

I think it's no thing to get married officially. just head down and the two of you appear in front of a JP, i think they can even have witnesses there for you if you don't want to bring your own.

Why do you need to be married before you get married?

I thought you and the Mrs-to-be just head down to city hall and get married/sign-the-papers. Then do the "real thing" with friends in Mexico. Or do it vice-versa.

Because they can't get their magical piece of paper in Mexico.

Umm... that's not true. We got married in Mexico and had an official ceremony and everything. The resort provided the judge and we provided witnesses (but they could do that too).

Regardless, you have the option of getting married there or here, it's just more hassle to get it done down there because you have to translate birth certificates to Spanish, then translate the marriage certificate back to English when you get back in order for it to be recognized.
Not really a big deal as we had a certified translator lady here do it quick and cheap.

We are getting married on a Sunday because the soon to be Mrs. wanted 10.10.10

Mexico doesn't do civil ceremonies on Sunday's so we are required to be legally married here.

That. Is insane.
