The Tetris effect occurs when people devote sufficient time and attention to an activity that it begins to overshadow their thoughts, mental images, and dreams. It is named after the video game Tetris.
Which is scary and keeps you up at night.

People who play Tetris for a prolonged amount of time may then find themselves thinking about ways different shapes in the real world can fit together, such as the boxes on a supermarket shelf or the buildings on a street.[1] In this sense, the Tetris effect is a form of habit. They might also see images of falling Tetris shapes at the edges of their visual fields or when they close their eyes.[1] In this sense, the Tetris effect is a form of hallucination. They might also dream about falling Tetris shapes when drifting off to sleep.[2] In this sense, the Tetris effect is a form of hypnagogic imagery.
Is Russian, which mean it can't be trusted.

Tetris (Russian: Те́трис) is a puzzle video game originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov in the Soviet Union. It was created on June 6, 1984,[2] while he was working for the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science of the USSR in Moscow.[3] He derived its name from the Greek numerical prefix tetra- (all of the game's pieces, known as Tetrominoes, contain four segments) and tennis, Pajitnov's favorite sport.
My two nerdy claims to fame was getting a highscore of 767,000 and achieving 228 lines in the same day (different sessions). I swear this game was my crack back in the classic NES era.
I'd play to the point of getting totally zoned out (I called it, the Tetris zone). Breathing slows, blinking is minimal and nothing else exists in the room. This was back in late 88 and 89. I even submitted the highscore photo to Nintendo Power Magazine which at that time crushed the North American highscores by quite a margin.
Once every couple years, I'll dust off the old NES and see if the old man still has it. Needless to say I have only reached above 500,000 once.
Their new album leaked recently. It's all cartoon theme covers, and is awesome.
Exhibit A:
sick! They are kinda like a poor mans Dragonforce with no singing (thankfully) and who actually sound good live from the youtube videos I've seen. Also kind of a mini Gwar with the costumes and such.

Did you guys ever play Welltris on the pc? i convinced my parents to buy me a $5000 IBM so i could play video games and connect to U of C email via pine. hahaha
The best tetris game ever is still the one for the N64.
Also kind of a mini Gwar with the costumes and such.
They are nuts live. The guitarist and bassist come out wearing foam mockups of epic armor from World of Warcraft, and the drummer wears samurai battle standards in Japanese script cleverly designed with the band name on them. Watching him play while the standards flap about is incredible.

I had that tetris effect with both Minesweeper and Freecell at points. I'd close my eyes at night and my brain would start solving Minesweeper or Freecell problems.
