Deals on I-POD Touch?
Just wondering if any one knows of a good place with the best deal for an I-POD touch?
Amazon so far with $265 (32GB) and $346 (64GB) seem to be the best deals...
Woops the above prices were in the US... looks like $350 (32GB)

First things first, this may not be the best time to buy one. According to the Mac buyer's guide the iPod Touch is listed as "Don't Buy - Updates Soon". These things go on 1 year cycles and the last one was updated September 9, 2009. If you can wait until September that may be your best bet.
If you're a student or teacher (or know somebody who is) the Apple store has an education section of their store that has 32 gigs for $329 and 64 gigs for $429.
Also if you're thinking of getting a mac (or know somebody who is), you can get a free iPod Touch with it. Keep an eye on kijiji as many students who are buying macs are selling the iPod Touch's they get through this deal that they don't need

Hmm... thanks for the info. I think I'll definitely wait for the next generation to get released then!

So we're looking at late September, early October for the new generation?
Probably no deal breaks either since they'll be brand spanking new, eh? So in the $499 range for a 32GB?
Also, is a touch worth the extra money over say a nano?

If you're only interested in listening to music, take the nano over the touch.

Check out the refurbished section on apple.ca. I've bought Ipods and a Macbook from there, at a significantly reduced price, and they were flawless, haven't had any issues with them. They come with the same warantee a new one would.

Depends on what you want to do. If you're just going to listen to music get the Nano.
Touch is the iPhone without the phone part.

Not a chance. The iPod Touch has famously been called “training wheels for the iPhone”. They won’t cannibalize sales of the iPhone via a 3G enabled Touch.
I also have my doubts that the iPod Touch has sufficient internal volume to hold a higher capacity battery or antenna gear required for 3G.

So it would basically be 95% iPhone? Why wouldn't you just get an iphone at that point?

Typically, Apple uses the back-to-school sale to clear out their extra stock, before refreshing the O-DiP lineup with the updated version afterward.
So, yeah, wait for the new ones. Also, beware of the $200 touches on Kijijijijij. The freebie iPods with the current back-to-school sale are the leftovers from last year. They're not even the 3rd Gen ones. I don't like that they're doing that this year, seems pretty lame to me.

I thought you bought the iPod separately and then sent in for a rebate? Couldn't you just buy the 3rd Gen?

Yes, you can, you get a $219 rebate (the cost of the cheapest iPod touch), if you get the larger capacity Ipod touches, they won't be free, but you'll stil save $219.

You get $219 towards the price of an iPod. Which makes the 8GB 2nd Gen one free, but the two 3rd Gen models would still have a balance owing.
The people looking to capitalize on the same deals other people have gotten over the last couple years, will snag the free one to sell for $200. The problem this year, though, is that the free ones aren't even the current generation, and will be two generations old by September.
Last year, the free one was a current-gen model. I don't know about previous years though.

I got the 8G second generation iPod when I ordered an iMac this summer, and recently sold it for $155, unopened. I may have been to get a bit more by holding out a bit longer, but I didn't want to hold out to long knowing that new models are likely coming out soon. It also didn't help that a bunch of retailers actually had them on sale at the time (as low as $189 +GST)

Thanks for all the info guys, it's a big help. I'm basically going to be using the iPod for in the car, at home and at the gym. Nanos also have video as well right? So the iTouch is really only necessary if I want to play around with Apps, etc.?
Also, is the next generation of Nanos going to have a lot of new features? Or am I better off just getting a current generation Nano?

I use my Nano for video on the bus. It isn't perfect but it works well enough for me to burn through a season of a TV show every couple weeks.

Thing of it is, the music interface with the iPod Touch is also great. You don't even have to use apps. I just have music on mine until I buy a Classic.
