“My understanding is that it was on the first day that they were there that they encountered a bear in their campsite,” he said.
“I don’t know why, whether it was a food issue or not.
“Over the time that they were there, I understand there was a number of sightings of this bear in the area by them and for whatever reason, they chose not to relocate or better protect themselves.”

If I see a bear wandering my camp site, I'm getting out of there ASAP.

Goddamn it Bear! We had a deal that you get to eat all the Canuck fans you want in exchange for leaving the rest of us the hell alone!

It's in the constitution, second amendment I believe.
The right to bear arms and the right to arm bears

This isn't the same bear seen on the news lately with a bucket stuck on its head, is it? If it was and it managed to attack two Canucks fans, then either the bear is incredibly talented or the Canucks fans are even more pathetic than I imagined . . .

The bear with the jar on his head is in Ont. poor guy has been seen for 2 weeks like that.
I don't get why mauling victims are up for the Darwin award.

They found that jar in a lake, but the bear hasn't been found yet. They think it might have drowned in the lake or it could have somehow freed itself.
Canuck fans are still pathetic though.

Because they saw a bear wandering their campground several times, and still decided to camp there.

I think the younger man should be up for an award. Anyone who sacrifices his own life to save another, as in this case, should be honoured.

They shouldn't be, since they aren't dead and from the story I don't see any reason why they wouldn't still be able to reproduce. You have to actually take your DNA out of the gene pool to get a Darwin award - these guys were just really dumb.

I think whenever you're camping in the wild, you have to be conscious of bears. Moving their camp because they spotted bears would may have been fruitless, as either the same bear or others may have showed up at the new spot just the same. The thing is to be aware of the risk, store any food properly to avoid attracting them, and carry some form of protection...whether it's bear bangers, bear spray, rifle etc.
