Maritimes in the Fall - Potential Engagement
Well, after 38+ years of bachelorhood, and times times clinging fiercely to my single independence, the time has come to drop to one knee and propose to a girl naive and accepting enough to willingly choose to spend time with me. We're going to New Brunswick for her step-brother's wedding on the Labour Day weekend and then spending the next couple weeks visiting family and friends in NB and Halifax.
She has some friends and relatives in Halifax, and one thought I had was to do the deed somewhere in Halifax and then arrange to have these friends and relatives waiting to surprise her at a nice casual/romantic restaurant/lounge/pub later on that evening.
Now, never having been east of Toronto within Canada, my local knowledge of that area is sketchy at best. So if anyone has any sure-fire romantic locations in NB or the Halifax area, as well as an eating/gathering spot that would meet my above criteria, I'm all ears. I also anticipate the usual advice re: "Don't do it!" - believe me, I've handed out that advice a time or two in the past myself.
Thanks in advance CP.

Are you counting 38 years of bachelorhood from birth or puberty? There is a summer-only fish & chips place with a great view near Sherbrooke, NS - very apropos.

From birth. Though up until the age of about 21 it was more like forced bachelorhood due to my social ineptness.

I am pretty sure Labour Day weekend there is still pretty much summer weather.
Why not go for a day trip? Drive along the coast and find a nice lookout or beach.
- There is a nice beach called "Conrad's Beach" that could work:

- Or just go to a destination, and play it by ear when the time and location is right.

I spent my honeymoon there in late August/early September back in 2003. The weather was fantastic. You'll love it.
For an actual place to do the deed, so to speak, I am a big fan of having it in your pocket and waiting for the right time. There are lots of beautiful beaches and quaint towns and villages along the coast.
If I was to pick once place to pop the question from what I saw when I was there, I'd pick the beach at Sandy Cove on Digby Neck on the Fundy side of Nova Scotia. My wife and I had a great time walking along the beach as the sun went down. It is a bit of a trek from Halifax though.
Unfortunately we had some giant Digby scallops the size of hockey pucks in the town of Digby (figured we had to) shortly thereafter that must have gone bad and we both ended up with the shats for a day. How romantic.

Take her on a fishing boat and store her family under the poopdeck.
You can eat what you catch afterwards

No, she's from the Edmonton area but her Dad lives out there so she's been numerous times.

We're flying into Moncton for the wedding, her Dad lives in Arthurette, and we'll be in Halifax for some visiting. Ideally, I'd also like to get to the Bay of Fundy and Hopewell Rocks, but not too sure beyond that.

How about Magnetic Hill and you can be all cheesy and use all sorts of metaphors involving magnets, attraction, etc.
Until you realize that it is all just an optical illusion, which is not quite the metaphor you want for your pending marriage.

Hopewell rocks would be a good place to do it.
In Halifax there are some beautiful spots in Point Pleasant Park then you could meet up with the friends for drinks.
quick trip down to Lunnenberg or Chester would be nice as well.

Hopewell Cape (The Rocks) in NB
Peggy's Cove if in Halifax.
Eating establishments in Halifax I would consider would be The Fireside, Five Fishermen, Steamers, Salty's, Murphy's, etc.

The Public Gardens would also be a sweat proposal spot in Halifax.
