(Rumor) Jackets About to Sign Horcoff

The bottom line is that the Jackets needed a C. With many crappy players getting big grid deals, there are obviously not going to be many players available via free agency. We waited until the very last minute to see who might be around but it's obvious there is a lot of cap space out there and guys are being given big money.

Our hands are tied.

We picked a player who is still relatively young and at a price point we can live with ($5mill).

Horcoff is still young enough to rebound in the NHL and at $5mill it is a risk we are willing to take. Meanwhile we fill a hole on our 2nd line and he can play there for now.

Sabres are kind of sad to give up on Shawn Horcoff who we feel is a decent NHL and CPHL player and will probably hold his value for 3 years. he was our first line centre last year, but his ratings for this year have him looking more like a 2/3 guy and sadly we already have money tied up in Federov to be similar and decided in the end to extend our other 2 UFAs Elias (who will be our top ranked forward) and Lydman (our top DF dman).

probably could have got more for Horcoff had he been shopped earlier but we've gone back and forth internally about best next direction for us and in the end the deals on the table for Horcoff were all about the same.

Sabres will be under cap but not quite enough money to ice our best roster come fall still some work to be done for sure
