Default General Airport Questions Thread

I didn't see a general airport-specific thread, though I did only search back a few pages. Figured this would be helpful for random airport questions, especially since I have one.

Anyone ever clear customs or go through security with an air cast on their foot? How much of a hassle was it? I have a flight tomorrow and I'm hobbling on a fractured foot. Just curious what I'm in for.

They'll have to cut it off. You'll be re-fit with a generic TSA approved cast, but they'll put a little note on it saying that it's for your safety and comfort, just like the ones they leave when they cut a lock off.

I recommend going to the airport an hour earlier.

It's just an air cast (plastic boot with velcro straps), not a hard cast.

Failed attempt at humor, apparently.

Assumed you skipped over the 'air' part. Let me go back and read it again after I've had a cup of coffee.

I would assume you will just have to do the full body scan and that would be the end of it.

I've worked doing baggage/ramp and security screening at the airport, feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

Security will just hand check around your cast likely if there is any alarm. Chances are though the air cast wont set of the metal detector.

Not exactly answering your question; but when you're going through in a wheelchair, be sure to let them know you're wearing a carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer titanium leg brace. If you don't you'll spend 20 minutes in the file room being tested for explosive material. This was my experience at LAS, anyway...

I was literally in the 10x10 file room for 20 minutes.
