Default GAME 3: STAMPEDERS(2-0) at TORONTO(1-1)

Third game of the season and short week for both teams. It was an exciting finish against the Hamilton TigerCats especially the winning field goal by the rookie Stampeder kicker Maver.

Stamps defense played pretty well again especially late in the game when Hamilton went close to the goal line. They stopped them from going in for a touchdown 3 times. That was huge!

Better effort for the Stamps' offense. Good for the Offensive Line to make adjustments from the first half. First Half were terrible for them especially for the rookie Edwin Harrison.

QUARTERBACK: Burris played well especially when the OLine started giving him more time. I still think we are not seeing the best of Burris just yet. Should Burris watch for that cheap shot DL Adriano Belli of the Argonauts? I don't think so.

RUNNING BACK: A very consistent Joffrey Reynolds usually have good game running against the TiCats. Well, that last game wasn't an exception. I see another 80+ yards for Joffrey on this game vs the Argos.

OFFENSIVE LINE: OLine struggled in the first half. Rookie Edwin Harrison got picked on a lot in the first half but they made some adjustments in the 2nd half. Overall the OLine still got the passing grade on Game 2.

RECEIVERS: Romby Bryant 2 drop passes (both of them wide open), Arjei Franklin dropped 2 catches as well. PK Sam played well. Would that be enough to keep Jermaine Jackson, who I thought played well in Game 1, on the sideline? I am hoping the Stamps will have spot for both of them but due to the ratio problem (starting 2 imports in OL), they have to sit an import receiver. Rookie non-import Forzani had his first catch in the CFL vs Hamilton. With Ryan Thelwell practicing with the first rep, there is a possibility he might play. That means Ron Kelly or Forzani might sit out.

I thought Nik Lewis played well and he was so active at the game against Hamilton.

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN: These guys played by commitee. You can't really pick who is the best DLine because all of them played well. I thought they are the biggest reason the Stamps won in Game 2.

Interesting article on the Herald this morning regarding Mike Labinjo. It says Coach told Labinjo to Improve or He's Gone. I guess we didn't even noticed that Labinjo didn't play a lot in the 2nd Half. He was replaced by George most of the day. I hope these would lit Labinjo's butt and play well against the Argos. I love Labinjo and hate to see him gone.

LINEBACKING: They too played well along with the DLine. RB Cobb didn't have a good game running against the Stamps' DLine and the LB. Glenn didn't get a chance to run around as well.

DEFENSIVE BACKS: There was some ups and down on this position. I thought Brandon Smith played well against Arland Bruce. Overall they were good against Hamilton.

SPECIAL TEAM: Deon Murphy almost scored a TD on 2 returns. The first one was the kickoff return. He broke the wall then almost went all the way. The only reason he didn't make it was Sandro's tripping him. The second one was on Sandro's missed field goal. He started off kind of scary. I thought someone will tackle him on the 1 yard line only to break loose. Murphy just ran out of gas after the 105 yards return. Don't matter because the Stamps hit the paydirt on Burris-Lewis TD.
Kicker Rob Maver outduelled his teacher Sandro going for 3 for 3 and hit the most important field goal in his early CFL career.
Stamps gave up a punt return for TD but I am sure they will work on that.

GO STAMPS GO!!

Sounds like Thelwell is in probably at the expense of Forzani. Also, the Bombers released Arthur the other day and the Stamps are bringing him in for a physical.

Any news on Rambo? I thought he was getting pretty close before last game.
Maybe week 4?

I believe the Stamps placed him on the 9 game disabled list, I could be wrong though. The thing with the 9 game list is that teams can pull one player off the list early (Edm just did this with their kicker). So I guess he could come off if he is healthy.

I found Al Cameron's Insider report on Rambo being on the 9 game list. This is from June 24.

And we can now tell you that Rambo, Sam, R Blaine Kruger, DE Fernand Kashama and RB Rafael Little are all on the one-game list, CB Johnnie Dixon and OL Oamo Culbreath are on the nine-game list, and LB Robert McCune is on the disabled list.

Sam looked okay against the Cats so he will probably be a regular unless his play drops off. When Rambo comes back I assume that Bryant will be the odd man out. While he had a bad case of the dropsies against the Cats I though Bryant has been pretty decent for the Stampeders.

GAME DAY UPDATE: It seems that Receiver Ryan Thelwell will play tonight in expense of fellow Canadian Johnny Forzani. Not much changes on the lineup tonight.

GAME TIME: 5:30pm and the game will be shown on TSN.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They say QB Cleo Lemon are improving and is getting comfortable playing in the CFL now. But they didn't mention that the Blue Bombers defense last week was brutal and they didn't really pressure him that much the Stamps did on their first game. Watch out for non-import DL Mike Labinjo Mr. Lemon. He will so gung-ho about this game because he needs to prove something to the coaches or he'll be gone. I guess for us Stamps fans, we didn't really noticed the drop of his play from Game 1 to Game 2. I hope he pulls through and stay as a Stampeders all season and next.

I think the Stamps will win this game especially if they pressure the rookie QB more. Don't give this guy a lot of space as he's got a cannon arm. Our OLine must continue what they did in the 2nd half of Hamilton's game and give Burris lots of time. Mix up the plays by running the ball early then short passes and when successful on both counts, throw an occasional bomb. Stamps must also cut down on dropsies.

We need another good game from special team returner Deon Murphy and at the same time the special team cover team must stop I believed his name is Owens in getting some yardage return. So far in this early season the worst position for the Stamps is the Special Team but I am talking about the cover team though.

GO STAMPS GO!!!

I thought I heard (week ago or so) Rambo was not placed on the 9 game DL list and could possibly play after the road trip....

Not sure now... especially after reading the link.

Let's go Stamps! Seems we always get played tough in TO; I think it was a three point game last year and I seem to recall we lost in TO a while back even when they were horrible (or maybe that was Hamilton..)

I hope they don't forget Joffrey, his yards per carry is amazing yet to me it seems he should be getting the ball a few more times (even if it's a screen/swing pass).
Also hoping for a big game from Labinjo, loved the guy in the Grey Cup two years ago and it would be a shame if he fell out of favour.

Brutal start on offense again. Bryant is playing his way on the bench.

Our receivers look disinterested to start the game.

Offense just doesn't look organized. Receivers look like they are just mailing it in.

How badly do we need Rambo back?

That route by Sam in the endzone was awful. If he runs a crisp route there it's an easy TD.

Burris isn't looking sharp either.

He isn't getting any help, but he's got his happy feet so far tonight.

I seriously don't know why they don't just use Reynolds for a bit to settle down Burris and get the O into a groove...

Probably the insanely short week, and no practice leading up to this game.
