I was watching Deadliest Catch today (first time ever), and I'm pretty sure it was that guy who went down to his bunk and was feeling crappy and smoking in bed. Then it was a big moment when one of the crew came down and started getting emotional about his habits and health, saying he was worried about him.
Sad, that guy reminded me of my uncle in Iceland who also died a few years back, captained a fishing ship in Vestmaneyar Iceland for 20 years, and been on the seas since he was a teenager.

If I remember correctly, one of the seasons he had a blood clot hit his heart (I think) and had to be taken into the hospital.
that show is awesome, he was an interesting part of it.
I remember the scenes where they discuss his health and he is really down about it, then his son makes him his favorite sandwich: fried egg, mayo, sausage, bacon
I remember watching an episode where they had to bring him in for health reasons, so I think this was an on going thing .. I believe he continued to smoke and didn't retire/stay on shore even though the doctors told him it would be his demise.
To each their own, I like the show and he seemed like a genuine guy.
At first I thought it was that guy from the show where they chase the whale hunters... Whale Wars.. and I was readying this gem..
