Default Captain Phil from Deadliest Catch died

Love this show and Captain Phil was always a fun to watch with his sons. He had a stroke a couple weeks ago and died a few hours ago.

I was watching Deadliest Catch today (first time ever), and I'm pretty sure it was that guy who went down to his bunk and was feeling crappy and smoking in bed. Then it was a big moment when one of the crew came down and started getting emotional about his habits and health, saying he was worried about him.

That sucks. However you look at it, the Bering Sea took that guy's life. RIP.

If Mike Rowe narrated his funeral, I'd watch it.

Sad, that guy reminded me of my uncle in Iceland who also died a few years back, captained a fishing ship in Vestmaneyar Iceland for 20 years, and been on the seas since he was a teenager.

Tough sob.

Rip Captain.

If I remember correctly, one of the seasons he had a blood clot hit his heart (I think) and had to be taken into the hospital.

I can't say smoking 3 packs of cigarettes and drinking a flat of Red Bull every day for a couple months qualifies as natural causes.

It's too bad he died, but really, what else could one expect when you lived like he did? That whole crew of fishermen live awfully tough lives.

RIP Cap'n Phil

that show is awesome, he was an interesting part of it.

I remember the scenes where they discuss his health and he is really down about it, then his son makes him his favorite sandwich: fried egg, mayo, sausage, bacon

guy went out living living how he chose

Very sad of course. He's one of the more entertaining Captains on the show.

How did he live so long?

He lived and looked like the unhealthiest human being still alive. Not a poster boy for The Great Outdoors.

Too bad for him and his family though.

I remember watching an episode where they had to bring him in for health reasons, so I think this was an on going thing .. I believe he continued to smoke and didn't retire/stay on shore even though the doctors told him it would be his demise.

To each their own, I like the show and he seemed like a genuine guy.

At first I thought it was that guy from the show where they chase the whale hunters... Whale Wars.. and I was readying this gem..

Wow, that sucks - but he really didn't help himself out at all.

He gets back from the blood clot and smokes 9000 cigarettes a day, everyone had to know he couldn't keep that up and not suffer the consequences.

His boys seem like good guys on the show, hopefully they see what their dad's lifestyle did to him.
