Update at 9:52 a.m. ET:The New York Daily News, quoting a "high-placed source with the team," reports that Steinbrenner died around 6:30 a.m. today in Tampa.

A lot of people hate the Yankees, but you can never really ask for a better owner than Steinbrenner. He made a ton of money and poured it back into his payrolls to get the best team possible.
