The old drive perhaps, many times it is set to cable select.
Also fiddling in bios, there might be a setting for the SATA/IDE setting that indicates that the SATA drive is duplicated as another IDE device, and you'll either need to change your DVD drive to a different configuration, or run the SATA in AHCI
The other thing is to plug the sata drive into a different port, and see if that works as well, (instead of 0, plug into 1 or 3 instead of 2, YMMV)
(if availabie, considering you haven't given motherboard specs, computer brand, or what kind of drives you have in your computer )
