Rumour: VIBE to flip; New CJAY logo
Airchecker, a reliable Tweeter, has been posting about VIBE 98.5 flipping to "Virgin" tomorrow, and a new CJAY logo on a billboard on McLeod.
Just an FYI...

I loved Fuel, but AMP is playing the radio game better than anyone has since Power IMO... PS - I hate Bieber...

Had the hip hop niche in Calgary. Got scared when Vibe was awarded, being full time hip hop/r&b. Thought they were being proactive by flipping to Peak 107.3, then flipped in 2004 to Q107.

What was that really awesome college station that played all the heavy stuff late at night? Oh and Overnight was a great show. Think that was on CJAY, though.
This was late 80s to early 90s. Back when I was a crazy-assed mofo.

CJSW 90.3 is the college station in Calgary. It's pretty hit or miss as to who the DJ is as to what they play.
Vibe 98.5 will most likely just be changing their name. A couple months ago their parent company had registered a couple domain names, I forget the specific domains. But they included switching the names to Virgin radio (as has been done in a couple different canadian cities) The other one had a name change to Boom Radio.

Edmonton has a great new radio station, I can't remember the name but they play alot of dance/electronica. Calgary needs a station like this, IMO.

i listen to x92.9 most of the time.
the dj's are quite literally ######ed though which causes great pain when I am not quick enough with the dial. (except for the one chick who sounds like she is hot but probably isn't)

Terrestrial radio sucks. Satellite is where it's at in my opinion.
The only thing I listen to terrestrial radio for is for local news and sports.

The morning show guys are some of the most intelligent on radio. Not ######ed at all.
Can't say the same for Carly though. Chick needs to lay off the 'I'm too sexy for my voice' gig.
AMP has without doubt become the 'hip' station. I wouldn't even mind them if they'd play a bit more variety.
BBC Radio 1 is still the best station on the planet. Don't know why stations all around the world don't attempt to replicate them.

Carly Meyers? She does sound hot, like super hot but unfortunately you guessed right, she is not.

She has so many messed up stories everyday. I have a hard time believing her.

I think CJAY has had the same logo since the early 90s. A revamp is probably due.I saw one of their new billboards on the weekend, and thought the new logo looks pretty good.

For some reason, Edmonton always seems to have better stations than Calgary.

I would listen to X all the time but their announcers are horrid. Every time I turn it on, I think "hey, this is good music, why don't I listen to this station?", then the announcer comes on and I remember why.
Many moons ago, I took Broadcasting at MRC, and I truly believe that I haven't heard anyone on X who would have actually passed the program. I did newscasts drunk in first year that sounded more professional than ones I've heard on X.

People still listen to the radio?
I couldn't even guess what stations names are or what the frequencies are.
The only station I have tuned into in the last 5 years either in the car or online is the Fan 960

Sometimes when I'm back in Calgary I put on X 92, which is actually tolerable at times, but generally, I agree. Mainstream radio sucks, and it sucks bad. I can't remember the last time mainstream radio introduced me to a band I like.
CJSW is great though. Calgary is lucky to have it. Nothing in Vancouver compares to it.
CBC radio is decent for news/current events. That's pretty much what I wake up to, and then my ipod takes care of the rest of the day.

ahh yes, Carly "I was chain smoking at this cd release party last night and I would mount every single member of the tokyo police club on air" Meyers.
I appreciate the charisma and the laid back uncensored college like vibe from her. At least she doesn't sound like she's 50 like the other female radio hosts,
