Default HTC Hero

Anyone else have one of these? I picked one up last week and am having a couple minor issues I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light on.

Email:
I'm using the default HTC Mail program and it seems a little hit and miss. I've notice that I can go all day without getting any and then all the suddend I have like 8 or so, some sent hours earlier. If I hit "refresh" I get a log in error, if I hit it a few times I will get the same error a few times and then it will work so I clearly have the servers set correctly (pop.shaw.ca for incoming and the telus smtp server for outgoing) but some times it works, other times not so much.

Data connection:
This is supposed to be a 3G phone but the data connection has yet to show the 3G icon, all I get is an "H" for HSPA I'm assuming. Anyone know why this would be?

Tips? Suggestions?

HSPA is like 3G+, so I wouldn't worry about that. You're getting better than you expected.

As for the mail, check your settings and see what the refresh rate is set to. Maybe check out a different mail app. I use the Gmail app that comes with my Nexus One and works great, but I have my other addresses forward to my Gmail for simplicity.

The refresh rate is set to every 15 mins. It seems like I get tons of email at once is because that is its first time it actually is able to connect and d/l new messages. It's probably tried numerous times during the day but is likely getting the login error but it doesn't show me that unless I'm hitting the refresh button myself. I dunno, it's really weird. Same things happens when I try to d/l attacments. Have to hit the button 7-8 times before is will actually login properly and d/l the attachment.

Good to know about the 3G part. I'm always blown away how quicky things d/l but thought maybe there was a problem with it not showing that icon.

I have the Hero and had all sorts of troubles with the default HTC Mail app. I had many of the same issues with emails being received on my phone well after my account actually received them.

Fortunately I use gmail as my primary email address and easily switched over to the default Android Gmail app (which is excellent).

/\\/\ I thought the Gmail app had some issues too. Not sure tbh but I thought a new email notification was absent in the app?

Sorry to bump a old thread but does anyone else have any more insight to the HTC hero?

It seems like a good phone but I'm torn between this and an Iphone.

Why not go for the Legend instead? It's basically the Hero, but better.
