Teen dead after alleged attack by father
Peel Regional Police on Tuesday released the name of a 16-year-old Mississauga teen who died after allegedly being attacked by her father.
Aqsa Parvez was found in her Longhorn Trail home on Monday morning without any vital signs.
Aqsa Parvez's friends told CBC News that the teen had been having arguments with her father because he allegedly wanted her to wear a traditional hijab.

I can't understand how anyone could kill another person let alone their own daughter. Really unbelievable. I would like to see the actual reason as to why the father killed the girl.

Here we go again, another Islam/immigrant bashing thread!
Although when these things happen the religion lends itself to scrutiny.

You know, it's funny, and sad at the same time, that the moment I read the thread title, I knew it was going to be an argument over a religious requirement, and that the dead teen was probably a girl.
IMO, Islam isn't any worse than Christianity, it simply hasn't grown up as much as Christianity has yet. the dark ages ended quite some time ago. Perhaps the worlds second largest religion should realize this.
Perhaps we should stone the father to death. If it works in the Muslim world...

Heh. My first reaction upon reading the thread title was, "Here we go again, another topic about a terrible crime in which the collective conscience of CP lets us know all the various different types of cruel and unusual punishment they would like to see inflicted upon the perpetrator."
[Edit]
Although I will credit Jayems for being particularly creative with respect to the above.

I wasn't bashing/labelling you for reporting the news. I was alluding to the lengthy Canada Customs officer thread about having a longer skirt than standard and how that particular thread got out of control and multiple pages. I anticipated this news item would be another spark to a similar debate. Just the same as any thread that seems to identify a study on something's impact on GHG emissions somehow we end up in a global warming debate yet again.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. Although, the previous discussion was not about Canada Customs, it was about CATSA. I wouldn't lump the two groups together. But...again...thanks for clarifying.

you know i may get called an immigrant hater or bigot or whatever for saying this, but i really wish we could deport asshats who pull **** like this. if they refuse to adapt to Canadian culture and insist on keeping their heads in the dark ages then throw them back to the countries where they can feel at home. it angers me to no end when i hear about Taliban cowards hanging a young boy for having American money, or stoning a girl because she was raped, but to have this filth happen in our own country just sickens me. it's like when gangs move cities and take their hatred and violence with them, burdening people who didn't have to deal with stuff like that before

Nice way to hedge your bets. Come out with the PC cultural equivalency
" God knows we see a daily write-ups about girls being crucified on a cross by their fathers for refusing hanging a star on a Christmas tree."
and then hit home with ignorance.
"Lets stone him because every follower of Islam (not just a large, dangerous minority) does so"
(A whole heep full of sarcasm)
But hey, since we, as a society, have decided that criticism of any culture other than a Western one is forbidden and anything and everything from other cultures should be tolerated and understood....why don't we accept this part of his into our own cultural mosaic? As one great thinker said, has this death of this girl affected any one of us even a bit? If not then why should we worry? Doesn't bother me.

I don't understand why people move here from oppressive regimes if they don't want they children to enjoy Western freedom of choice and expression.

When exactly did we decide that? We sure as hell don't practice it.
This loon will get crucified, and rightly so. Any jackass who says "we don't understand" will get immediately shouted down.
You can bitch about "cultural equivalency" and "political correctness" all you want, but it's a myth. This guy won't get any sympathy and we all know it.

You can't throw your kids in the ocean and expect them not to swim. Very sad news.

What made you think the family was oppressed where they were, or that they moved to Canada to enjoy Western freedom? Or that they moved here from somewhere else?

Because most (probably very close to 100%) of people born in Canada do not force their children to wear traditional hijabs. I'm playing the odds here. I'd be shocked if the father was born and raised in Canada.
And whether or not he moved here to enjoy western freedom isn't the point. The point is that if you do not want your children to have that, then you don't move to a society that has that. And if you are born here and feel you have the right use violence to enforce a dress code, then there are other places to live. It's unacceptable here.

I don't offer any sympathy to one who beats somebody to death. In fact, even if it's not to death. I don't care what nationality he is, nor what religion. He should relinquish all his human rights, since he ended somebody's life. He deserves no sympathy. Even if it was a white catholic/protestant/atheist. If you told me that somebody has beat his daughter to death, my opinion of him would NOT change if you said "he was Muslim too." As far as Islam growing up? Should religions be given time to grow up? Should innocent people die as a result? On that note, I'm not a religious person, at all.

Why restrict the bashing to specific religions and nationalities? I recall a story about a WASP New Yorker who slowly beat his 18 month old son to death trying to toilet train him. He wouldn't let the lad eat, drink or get off the toilet ... he just kept beating him until after 24 hours of this toilet training regime the kid was dead. It seems to me that defective individuals are an inherent part of the species and no single race, religion or culture has a monopoly on them. Let's be fair therefore and bash humanity.
