Default Do you avoid posting in "Fire on Ice: The Calgary Flames Forum"?

.... and you tend to avoid at all costs, actually starting a thread....

Because you don't want to get beat up over what you said?

... maybe because your ideas(s) are controversial?
... maybe because you feel your knowledge of the game isn't up to the standard of some other members here?
... maybe because you don't want to look stupid and have others point out that you are?
... don't want to paint a target on your back?
... the board is full of smartasses who usually can't bear to pass up an opportunity to take a shot at someone.
... some other reason why?

Put your hand up please if you feel you belong in the above categories.

Just interested to see if the sometimes very vocal minority here tends to intimidate the shyer? (not sure if thats the right word) members.

P.S. Boy oh boy.... I'll sure feel dumb if nobody puts there hand up here...

Yep, I post very little. Most of the time it's just a repost of something said 2 weeks ago.

Isn't it nice that people actually think before they post? I like the intimidation factor, keeps the quality higher than most forums.

I am of the opinion that if I don't have anything useful or insightful to say, then I probably shouldn't be saying anything at all. Most of what I post in FoI is useful (I like to think), or neutral (statistics that I've looked up, etc.,), and I definitely don't post just to see my writing on a screen.

I've posted my thoughts and opinions, and people have taken them as fact. One of my favourite threads, which in a way I regret, was talking about how Sutter drafted Cs two years ago, but failed to pick up someone (like Jokinen) to bolster the middle for the immediate need. http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=59621

I had to defend my thoughts, and provided fact, but it was like I no longer belonged on the board, because I didn't share the same "In Sutter We Trust" thought process.

I've also been slammed for my dislike for Dustin Boyd.

If you're going to put yourself out there, you're going to get people who don't like your post, especially if it's not the common thought. It's tough, but it's expected.

I don't avoid the "Fire On Ice", but I try not to start threads based on my opinion, unless I feel like defending myself over a 72 hour period.

I used to post alot, but then everything got really negative this year so it made me dislike even going there.

If I have time I will check things out, but it isn't my priority when I come to the boards

I actually spend more time (85% probably) on this forum. I think I only really participate over there when something big happens or beginning/end of season and playoffs/draft/trade deadline. Other than that it's pretty much the same stuff over and over again.

I'd actually like to take a break from here all together. Cowperson seemed to do a good job at leaving for awhile.

Others have faded and returned a bit.

Maybe I'll try to make this my last post for awhile (thinks to self, any outstanding threads to follow?).... lol right.

Most of the game threads last year were unreadable.

Why come to a discussion board if you don't want to discuss things? You shouldn't be afraid to post because you think the majority disagrees with you. The majority is often wrong about things.

Then again, we have some pretty vocal minorities around here too.

I guess at the end of the day - even if you get a beat down, it's just a hockey forum. It's not a big deal. Almost nobody knows who you actually are.

I read both (FOI and Off Topic) regularly, but most of my posting occurs in the Off Topic.

It's not because of trepidation or anything like that, but my opinions are always well represented in threads and I feel my opinion wouldn't contribute much.

I've cut down my posting over the last year and a half on FOI, mainly because of the negativity, and the lessening of cvility. I'm still fairly strong in the off topic forms.

Another part is the usualy transferance of my interest to GoStampsGo.com for the upcoming football season.

I love the fact that this obviously had to be moved into the OT Forum to elicit any type of unbiased response due to the obvious answer from the posters who would have seen it in the FoI side.
