Abandoned Car in Front of the House, what do I do?? What can I do??
Since the opening ceremony of the Olympics, I have had a 98 Dodge Avenger sitting right in front of my house. At first, I thought it was Olympic related and the owner was parking there for a couple weeks. Not so much. It's been there since mid February and the insurance has since run out.
I had called the city a couple times in March and they said they would come take a look, but since there was no parking restrictions on my street, they really couldn't do a lot to have it towed in a timely manner. They did ticket the car once, but never came back to tow it. I phoned the non emergency police and they said the car wasn't of interest to them, so they told me to call the city. I've gone around the block and no one knows who owns the car and the police won't tell me if the person even lives in the city.
Since the insurance ran out, I have an abandoned vehicle file with the city and last week, they chalked the tires, but have yet to tow it. I called the city again, maybe 20 minutes ago, and they keep telling me that they will move the file to the top of the list and will try to get to it ASAP. It's the same old story now, for going on three months. Not only is this car parked where I usually park, but it's becoming a big eye sore as well. It's parked right under a tree, so there's plenty of twigs, branches and bird crap all over it. It's disgusting and pissing me off.
Is there anything else that I could do?? Has anyone had an experience like this before?? I've been very patient with the city, but this is getting stupid now.
Oh, and who the hell leaves a car parked on a relatively quiet city street and never comes back for it?? If it was stolen, then someone would have reported it and the police would have said as much. I don't get what kind of person does this.

Paint it red, with huge flames all along the side, and a huge Flames logo on the hood.
Then you won't be the only one complaining about it.

Gonna hijack this thread, sorta. If a car is sitting in the back alley for months with no plate and a flat tire, will the city remove it? I'm tired of looking at the piece of crap plus it's in the way. The car is pretty ancient, early 70's Buick with half the paint gone.
As for the Dodge Avenger, can't the city attempt to contact the last owner?

smash the window, put it in neutral, push it elsewhere, preferably in an illegal parking spot, then call it in :O)

Hot-wire it and head to McLean Creek. Drive it into the ground.

I wonder if a Harpers or any other steel company would come take it off your hands if you called them.

All you have to do is take the plate off and call the police.

Not sure how good that would look considering I've called it in to the city and police a couple times.

Access to a truck? I'd hook my tow rope up to it and drag it somewhere else - like the middle of a busy intersection.
Other than that, try calling your City Alderman?

Paint a big "fata you" on the hood (along with Flames colours), get access to a truck for towing, and then place it right in front of city hall.
