Watch the video. This thing will be awesome if they can get the UX anywhere near the mockup. Finally seeing some stuff from the most talented people at Microsoft.

ohh fancy shmancy.
did not expect them to come up with their own tablet, i expected a new os version for the tablet because in the past tablets have failed because they tried to put xp on a tablet and that doesnt work. something like that you need specialized functionality and that means specialized software.

This thing looks awesome.
I'm an Apple fanboy but this might make me stray. The dual screens are great. If the Apple tablet that is supposedly in the works doesn't have that I will be disappointed.

This is very very cool. If it's like the animation they have going on there, and of course the pricepoint is good, that thing will be absolutely huge on the market I'm thinking. Almost to the extent a blackberry is essential to execs, this thing could be pretty big and would also spill to the consumer market pretty quickly. The thing is though, what would be the price point (would almost have to be under $1300 I'd think), and would the user interface be as friendly and smooth as Apple's?

That actually does look very cool. Personally I'm swimming in Apple products, so something like this would be hard to integrate into my daily workflow. I do hope products like this push the apple tablet to be something awesome, and not just a giant touch (which scares the living hell out of me).

At what pricepoint would you buy this? I'd say I would buy it at $500 and under, but of course it probably would be priced higher for quite some time.

Very cool.
I'm still not sold on the actual practicality of a tablet - you'll have to pry my keyboard from my cold dead hands.

One thing I've noticed about Microsoft is they announce something that looks awesome as a prototype, and then it basically disappears. How's 'Microsoft Surface' coming along?
I'll be wowed by this when it's in the store as a well built (not cheap looking) and I can play with it. Anything looks cool on the internet.

That is very true, and like everyone else, when it comes to MS products, I'm skeptical of a first build of this. I believe the MS Surface though was just a prototype where it was never meant to be released as it was presented. I did come across tables at some bars down here which had the finger touchy stuff to pass your time, but not too sure if it was a MS product (doubt it actually), but it was basically the same concept. I believe the concept from the surface is being evolved into this product. Hopefully they can also slim it down a bunch to make it on par with the rumored Apple tablet.

The technology exists today to complete this as a shippable product.
Microsoft Research, existing tablet technologies, Surface, InkSeine, Codex and a UI by the Zune/Xbox teams would be enough.
Microsoft has never been terribly good at getting its various business units together to complete a project and market it but it seems to be changing. The Office fluent UI team and the Windows 7 UI team seem to be on the same page now as an example.

I will take 2 the day they come out if the final product ends up like the concept. It will be my first personal MS product purchase since Word 98 for Mac.

This thing looks seriously cool. Great to see MS coming up with innovative stuff again.
Not sure where people have heard the Apple tablet is a 'giant iPod'.

Alot of Mac podcasts have speculated that it will be a more powerful larger screened version of the ipod touch mostly because they cant see them not trying to leverage the power of the app store.
I still think its a while away because it will be hard for apple IMO to get it under 1K with their profit expectations.
I assume you have an idea of what it might look like since you obviously dont think its just going to be a much more powerful ipod touch.

Well it looks like all the pieces are falling into place for the Courier. Windows Phone 7 series UX looks awesome and it has been said that the courier will run that.
Some new info and pics. Much smaller that I thought which is good.
