What's the thumbs down for? The reduction in crime due to increased funding is great news, is it not?

No one likes to pay $3 / day when it's much easier to pay nothing and have your car smashed, robbed and vandalized.

Did the reduction in crime save $3 times the number of people who have parked there. The average Vandelism / theft bill is probably 2K to 3k so with approxamately 500 cars per lot they need to stop a robbery every 2nd day in every lot. So with about 20 lots the number of incidents would need to drop by about 4000 per year.

I think this is awesome news.
I am curious how many fewer cars are parked in these lots since they are charging so much to park there?

I would guess somewhere around 50% fewer cars parking there.

What a joke. The only security seen around LRT stations is when they are trying to give people who never paid- a ticket.
The reason for the reduction like many have already said is because the lots aren't full anymore.

Only if you're a pessimist. I figure it's closer to 50% as many.

I wonder if there stats factor in the vandalism around the Crowfoot station? Somebody keeps kicking in the new fence. They are doing it so much they have a new portable cam system setup and they are canvassing the area about spending thousands of dollars to change the fencing.
That is the short story of what is happening.

I saw a group of them booting in the fence a couple months back, they looked exactly as one would expect.

Hmmm, not sure. I bumped the old original thread when the $3 was introduced - I assume it came with it? I think a mod wiped out the old thread and setup the news link as well. (thanks btw!)

I'm not sure where people are getting this lots are half empty thing.
I'm sure some of them may be (Brentwood perhaps), but Crowfoot is pretty much full by about 7:30 every morning.
Are the other lots really that empty?
