No More White Pages!
Hooray!
All I've ever done with phones books is pick them up off my porch and walk directly over to my Blue Bin and toss em'.
http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...ub=CalgaryHome
Even more Pluses to this news!
People in Calgary who still wish to recieve the phone books can request delivery here: http://delivery.ypg.com/delivery/form.php
Thanks to this option, My Brother Inlaw will be getting 2 of each....There are 4 different directories in total! Can't wait to hear him gripe about recieving 8 phone books!..........

No more white pages (residential directory) unless you request it. Yellow pages will still be delivered.

Okay,
I guess I didn't realize that "Yellow Pages" also did the directory.
But this is even better news, My brother Inlaw won't be getting 8 phone books, He'll be getting 9!.......

I used to work in the main office that overlooked the distribution of the Yellow Pages books in BC and Alberta. YPG kept changing their minds about distribution all the time.
Not to mention there's CanPages ones too and whatever other companies. The stupid things can really pile up. I just recycle all of them.

If you still want one you need to order on online?
Wouldn't the only people that would still want a phone book not have access, or know how to use the internet.

Does anyone actually use the white or yellow pages anymore? I am actually kinda curious. At my work next week we are meeting with our yellow pages rep and we are trying to figure out just how much cash we should shell out to them for our adds.

I still use Yellow Pages if I don't know what company I am looking for; like "what's that Chinese food place over in Douglas Glen?"

a) Let me know if you can see the name of the place:
http://www.google.ca/maps?q=50.95163...12,144,,1,7.38
b) You are working on the assumption that me or somebody with a sense of direction is asking said question.

my parents do because they are more comfortable with it.
i expect there are a number of people in the 40-50+ demographic who still use the yellowpages.
under 40? not so much...but i do use their online directory occasionally.

Yellow Pages are still very useful - there's lots of companies that still have zero or very little web presence.
Google is getting more and more useless - most of my non-IT related searches return mostly junk. Even the IT stuff is getting useless - it's usually something from stackoverflow.com. Gee, thanks Google!

It's in that article. If you mean people without web access they can find it in old editions of their phone books. Or at worst, ask the operator.
I had it memorized for a while. I hated that office.
