I've got one of them there Microsoft mouses there eh, and the thing is really on the fritz.

It's a three-button thing (left, right, the little wheel in the middle) that has the red-light instead of the little ball on the bottom. I was playing a game and it just died. I had to hit the reset button on the computer just to get out of the game. When it re-booted it worked for a minute and then flashed a few times and then worked and then flashed for 10 seconds and didn't work and then came back to life and got me here and now it's totally dark.

It's just over two years old.

EDIT: 10 minutes later and another reboot and and now it is working fine. Has anyone ever had this happen? I suspect (though I can't find the info/instructions) that it was a 2 year warranty and lo and behold...

Buy a new optical mouse. They are cheap. I paid $10 dollars for the one I have. Not worth the shipping to get it fixed (if possible).

Well it seems to be working now 3 hours but if it gives me the gears again then I will follow that advice. Thanks.

Probably not this, but just in case, red mouse pads apparently diffuse the laser part of the optical mouse. So don't use one of them. I only heard this recently.

If it is a cordless mouse, it could be as simple as dying batteries.

I've had something like this with my Logitech cordless...

Every once in a while the scroll wheel will just stop working for anywhere from an hour to a couple of weeks, and then will just start working again.

Weird.
