The Camping Liquor Ban
I tried searching and maybe I'm blind but...
Quote:
To ensure Alberta’s parks are safe and enjoyable places for everyone, temporary liquor bans will be in place at ten provincial parks and recreation areas from noon on Thursday, May 20 until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 24. The ban has been expanded to cover two new locations this year -- Ghost Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area near Cochrane and Jarvis Bay Provincial Park near Sylvan Lake. An increased need for enforcement interventions at both parks resulted in this year’s ban.
Sites under the temporary liquor ban during Victoria Day long weekend include:- Aspen Beach Provincial Park
- Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park
- Dillberry Lake Provincial Park
- Garner Lake Provincial Park
- Ghost Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area
- Jarvis Bay Provincial Park
- Miquelon Lake Provincial Park
- Pigeon Lake Provincial Park
- Wabamun Lake Provincial Park
- Whitney Lakes Provincial Park

What the hell? So because of a bunch of losers who can't clean up after themselves or handle liquor responsibly, the gov't of AB has to step in and ban liquor in provincial parks on the biggest weekend for camping? How is this "enjoyable for everyone"? Sounds like just enjoyable for mormons and people with small kids. Hell, even people with small kids can enjoy a beer on a hot afternoon in the woods.
This seems so over the top. First no tailgating, now this- what next? No drinking on outdoor patios?
Anyways if this is fata sorry but I searched a few times and nothing came up. What are your thoughts?

Drive down the forestry trunk road and find a place to drink.

Good. Suck it up. You're in some of the most beautiful country in the world, go hiking instead of drinking around the campfire.

Sadly when people take things too far privileges have to be revoked. Don't blame it on the Government. Blame it on the morons who ruined it for everyone else.

I think part of the problem is this- if people are being drunk and obnoxious what can they do? Can't send them home because they can't drive drunk. Can't throw them in jail as that would be a waste of resources.

They can't make the age limit 21 or older? There are much better ways to deal with this situation. I think part of the point of camping is to have some beers while grilling up dinner, sitting around with friends, etc. You don't enjoy having a few beers while camping?

I say who gives a crap. Who even goes to a family campground and drinks the hell out of the weekend?
It's far far far more enjoyable in the backcountry (and not so restrictive!)

If this is really your plan, I don't think you are the target. Drink your beer, cook your supper, don't be an idiot and I'd bet big dollars that you will not be bothered.

Not everyone wants to get wasted. I, myself, would drink maybe 6 beers during a long weekend of camping (with lunches and dinners).

If Officer Do-right writes you a liquor ticket while enjoying a quiet beer with the missus while watching the kids during a family camping trip, let me know.
I'll be moving to BC.

And what do you propose people do once it gets dark out?
One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Exactly... My question was wondering who actually goes to these campgrounds and get's wasted, ie "drinks the hell out of the weekend". I wasn't asking who goes and drinks sporadically, because I will do the same. I leave the big stuff for the non-official campgrounds.

Exactly, the target for this is morons who get wasted, trash the campground and keep everyone else up

The problem there is I heard some campgrounds will have RCMP inspecting vehicles on the way in. That was for the National parks, but I can't see it being any different in provincial parks either.
