Default Custom Framing Providers

Does anyone know of a good custom frame company in Calgary that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to frame something?

I have a 33" x 27" print that I am looking to get framed very basically. IE: Basic Black wood frame behind glass, no matte.

Michael's quoted me $150 for it and $500 to frame a jersey (This is after their 60% off promotion being applied, that sounds crazy to me), and another framing store (after finding out I felt their prices were better then Michael's were) quoted me $395 for the 33" x 27" after they quoted me $400 for the jersey framing and before I stated they had better prices then Michael's sale prices. (If that makes sense)

I knew it was pricey to custom frame, but I feel like I'm getting hosed.

Thank you!

Have you tried Costco? I don't think they do jerseys, but I've had pics done there for a pretty decent price.

The main reason that jerseys cost so much more is two fold. First, jerseys are more 'custom work' than a picture, so the materials cost more. As well, there is simply more work to be done to encase a jersey than to mount a picture, even if the picture is multiple matted.
At least so says my significant other, who has worked as a framing manager @ Michael's.

Oh I expected the jersey framing to be expensive, but I was thinking $600 all in, not $500 after a 60% discount has been applied.

My main gripe is the price to frame a large poster. $400 is ridiculous. Or maybe it isn't. More then I'm going to pay though. Which is why maybe Michaels will get my money.

Just looking for decent alternatives.

I'll chime in and just say I suggest you DO NOT GO TO MICHAELS. I had a horrible, horrible experience at the Shawnessy location where they screwed up my framing job time after time after time. It took them FIVE attempts over TWO MONTHS to get it right. It wasn't even anything complicated, just stupid, carelessness on their part. Never got any real response to my emails or phone calls to their customer service. Just a brutal experience.

I always get my framing done at the photographer that I also use.

It won't be any cheaper but I feel that photographers have a much better eye and feel for getting the frame and matte matched to your print and to your style.

Go see James at Corner Framing on 17th Ave SW just east of 37th street.
