Default Legal Question - Contracts and exclusions

In a situation where you are required to sign a legal agreement, but there are some part of the agreement that you don't agree with, is drawing a line through the sentences and (only you) initialling them sufficient enough to hold up if they attempt to hold you to the agreement?

It's been many moons since my Business Law case but I vaguely remember the instructor (Ingleson....UofC'ers may remember him) saying something to that effect.

I'm no lawyer but from what I reacall from my class on this type of stuff, no, accepting with conditions (such as unilaterally crossing out a sentence) can't be upheld. If you and whoever you're signing the contract with both initial it, then you're probably good, but you just doing it on your own doesn't mean a thing, and may void the whole contract.
