I was a big fan of this show. Although it could be cheesy, it was always stylish and truely represented the excesses of the 80s with a good amount of drama and cold, brooding storytelling. It also had great music.
As someone on another forum wrote:
"The root essence of the show is about the great "coke scare" that america was frightened and at the same time enthralled by. Unable to get inside these uber rich and powerful coke baron's world to bust them cops of the day went undercover as coke barons themselves. They had the designer clothes, hot cars, fast women and slick style that all that coke money could buy."
Now, Colin Farrel and Jamie Foxx are reprising the roles of Crockett and Tubbs and I don't think they could have done any worse with casting. They can't even get the image of Crockett right, as seen in an image from the set:

Don Johnson made Crockett look laid back but slick. Farrell makes Sonny look fat and lazy if you go by that set pic. He's wearing a silk shirt instead of a t-shirt or a wife beater? He's wearing a belt!!!???, And if I'm not mistaken, he's wearing black socks too! WHAT??? Crockett never wears a belt or socks! I mean, that picture makes it look like Colin Farrell IS Don Johnson two decades after Miami Vice. Weathered, fat, and badly dressed, even for the 80s. What is this? A comedy parody like Starsky and Hutch?
Could you imagine Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx doing this? I can't without laughing.

OH god, Jamie Fox goes from a Oscar and Collateral to Miami Vice the movie.
He should fire his agent.
Whats with the revamping of cheezy 70's and 80' T.V. shows.
Whats next M.A.S.H Vietnam
or how about Charles in Charge the movie.
Better yet, when are they doing the 6 million dollar man?

I'd call that a classic example of "be careful what you wish for..."

LOL, at first I had misread the post and thought it was going to be WILL Farrell doing Crockett, now that would be funny.

Jamie Foxx could do a movie where he sits and peels potatoes for an hour and a half and make it interesting. If he made a sequel to booty call i would be first in line, for crying out loud. After any given sunday, collateral and ray I am excited for whatever he does next.

Oh My God! Socks and a belt! Sacrelige!
As for the picture, I can't look at that without laughing. Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell would look at worst equally goofy.
When is this movie set?
Oh yeah and if Colin Farrell is "fat" then pretty much everyone I've ever met is a porker.

I guarantee this is gonna be a huge hit. They have already said this will be nothing like the Starsky and Hutch movie and that michael Mann is taking this film very seriously...........I actually the casting is great......who else is there???

If Michael Mann is doing this it could be very good. I love his directing style. Heat's one of the best crime movies of all time.

Curious fact, he also wrote for the TV series Miami Vice back in the day.
Also, don't forget the Insiders, it was up for Best Picture in 2000 at the Oscars.

This should be awesome!
Miami Vice was one of the best shows from the 80's. It defined a lot of the style and music of that era.
Sure it was cheesy at parts but it was well done. And he's correct it was a Michael Mann project.
Colin Ferrel is perfect for the role, he's got the 5 o'clock shadow. Jamie Foxx should be good too.
I see they've put out the first season of Miami Vice on DVD but it's about 60 bucks, I think it's so much because of all the copywrites on the soundtrack (or maybe that's how much DVD sets usually cost?).

But wait first he'll be starring in this summer's "Stealth" from the director of "The Fast and the Furious" and "xXx".

Jamie Foxx is horrible. I hoped he died in Collateral and how Ray and him got any good reviews I have no idea. That was a boring show.
