Beginning in the second half of the 90's, these Muchmusic compilations defined what was new and cool in music during each of their release years.
I'm guessing this discussion will gravitate to numbers 1 through 5, as everyone knows after they started sucking after that (6 MIGHT be acceptable). It's no coincidence that Nickelback is on 7.
My nomination is
Big Shiny Tunes 2 from 1997. The best compilation of 90's awesomeness ever.
Just try to tell me I'm wrong... (notice the 'edit' versions)
Prodigy - "Breathe (Edit)"
Blur - "Song 2"
Third Eye Blind - "Semi-Charmed Life"
Smash Mouth - "Walkin' on the Sun"
Sugar Ray - "Fly" (featuring Supercat)
Bran Van 3000 - "Drinking in L.A."
Marilyn Manson - "Beautiful People"
Holly McNarland - "Numb"
Bush - "Swallowed"
Matchbox 20 - "Push"
Collective Soul - "Precious Declaration (Remix)"
The Tea Party - "Temptation (Edit) (Tom Lord-Alge Mix)"
The Chemical Brothers - "Block Rockin' Beats (Radio Edit)"
Wide Mouth Mason - "My Old Self"
Radiohead - "Paranoid Android"
The Age of Electric - "Remote Control"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Lady Picture Show"
That transition from Blur to Third Eye Blind is less of a song change, more of a part 1 and part 2. You can't listen to one without the other. Then you have Sugar Ray FOLLOWED by Smash Mouth. To this day I believe this band is one and the same.
Drinking in LA is the centrepiece of this disc. Simply incredible. No need to elaborate.
Marilyn Manson could have been left off, but the song itself is great.
I could make a case for BST3 being the best as well, but it's a 'have to choose' scenario.

Really hope someone else posts in this thread.
