Default shaw pvr expander to iphone?

Any way to transfer movies and tv shows from the shaw pvr expander hd to itunes? It would be great to get all the movies and tv shows on my iphone.

I believe that they're encrypted so that they can only be played with the cable box that they were recorded on.

There isn't an app for that.

Isn't there a SlingBox player for iTunes?

There is, but it is fairly expensive for an app: $30. Works on wifi and 3G (if you've got a good data plan). That's probably the best bet to go from PVR to iPhone, although you'd be streaming as opposed to copying the files over.

Record to DVD recorder, rip DVD with Handbrake.

I'm thinking once the hockey season is over I may switch to the most basic plan I can with Shaw and get this:

That way I can return my $20/month pvr, record everything to my computer and export whatever I need to iTunes for use on my phone or iPad.

There isn't a whole lot in the way of TV over the air in Calgary though.

The EyeTV One is for antennae over the air, whereas the EyeTV Hybrid can be connected to a set-top box. You'd still have to pay for basic cable, but at least you could record it, remove the commercials and send it to your devices.

For that you'd be better off building a media PC rather than having a laptop dongle I think, then you could set the media PC to do all the recording and converting and sending and stuff automatically, having a dongle on my laptop connecting to a cable box (which is in my living room and not my office) and unable to record if I happen to be out (since I've got my laptop with me) doesn't seem very convenient.

My situation would be slightly different. I would have it hooked into my imac that never leaves the home office. Plus I could schedule recordings from the iphone app.

The iPhone aspect of it is a definite plus, and yeah a normal computer makes more sense for something like this.

Let us know how it goes!
