Help A Calgarian Win This Photography Scholarship
My good friend Jeff Cruz made it to the final 5 of the Escalate Live Scholarship search.
It's some sort of conference for photographers and they asked people to make their case for why they should be chosen.
They've narrowed it down to the final 5, and now the Top 2 are chosen based on votes.
Jeff is a great photographer, and from Calgary, and definitely deserves it!

Thanks! Jeff is actually coming with us to photograph the Grand Canyon and some other interesting things in Arizona/Utah next month, like The Wave:
It seems like you can vote multiple times, but I think if you try, it tells you that you have already voted. Not sure if it's IP based or cookie-based, but either way, I'd hate to get the guy eliminated for ballot stuffing so I'll probably avoid that.

Since this thread will basically be full of people simply posting that they voted I won't feel too bad at my attempt at hijacking it.
How does one get into photography though? I'm sort of interested in it. Basically all I would want to do would be take a few cool photos that I deem cool enough to frame and post on my walls. Perhaps some good enough to pass off as gifts to family members (im cheap).
What should I do to get into this? What kind of gear is required? currently the only camera that I own (and have ever owned) is the one on my iphone.

I would probably suggest buying an SLR camera for starters. There are some basic ones that go on sale here and there. Dell day's of deals had some, black friday, boxing day.
