Default The ABC's of Educational Toys

Here is a must read for all new or expecting parents. Hopefully and eye opener for those parents trying to emulate the Japanese education insanity of having a grade 2 kid study so hard and long they can do grade 7 algebra.

BTW: the country with the most insane outlook on education is Korea. Just nuts.

readiness > context > motivation

So you're telling me that domineering Japanese father from that Tim Horton's commercial a couple of years ago is NOT the best parenting method?

You can teach children anything but if it means something to them is another question.

There is a big difference in "book smart" and "life smart". I have seen more than a few people who are book smart and pathetically useless in a design environment. Memorizing stuff does not make you more intelligent.

There is a certain stage in cognitive development that the child becomes ready to learn. Coincidentally, this is about the age seen around the world when children usually first start grade school.

Prior to this age, exploring and play are infinitely more important than learning to read or learning math.

I don't disagree with you, but I can't pass up an opportunity to post this picture.

Unfortunately, 5 billion people would disagree with you.
