Default Hooking a mac mini up to a plasma

So, I have a mac mini that does 1080p output at 60hz over dvi.

I have a tcp46s1 which is a panasonic 1080p plasma.

I am having an issue where when I plug the mac in, I get this awful flickering on the plasma on any white or light coloured screens. It is particularily bad when moving various dialogue boxes around. I also notice that my plasma has a very visible grid effect.. like, you can't actually get a plain white background as it has a grid effect on it.

Anyone have any experience with plasma 1080p tvs and hooking up computers to them? My understanding was that this should just work, but it doesnt seem to.

your resolution is too high. Turn it down you should get a better result.

Like, turn it down to 1080i output? That would sort of defeat the purpose of having this for 1080p content though

Anyway, I just tried that, and I'm still getting cruddy picture.

This is somewhat baffling. My buddy has a similar setup with the same tv and a mac mini and has none of these problems. I've swapped cables, had my mini sent in for a new logic board, tried a different mini, etc etc. The only thing I haven't changed is the TV (sort of hard to do!) It doesn't seem like the TV should be the culprit here but there apparently is some sort of incompatibility between the mac and the tv

if you've tried different computers on the TV, perhaps something with the TV's DVI input is messed?possible to use a DVI-HDMI Converter and try that??

just throwing ideas out there

The TV only does HDMI in, so I'm using a dvi to hdmi cable (and I've tried multiple).

Do you know if the TV would have to do any sort of conversion of the signal, or does the cable handle that? I have a 360 and my telus box hooked up and have no issues with either of those, but they are both straight hdmi connections.
