Maple Ridge Men's Golf Club membership...

Just a reminder to those who may be interested in joining. As of March 16, the club will be accepting new members to replace those who did not renew their 2009 membership. Membership costs $75 per year.

Maple Ridge Men's Golf Club consist of about 100 members who through the support of The City of Calgary was established in the late 70's. The Club plays every second Saturday starting in early May and concludes in around the 3rd week of August. Maple Ridge Men's Golf Club is a member in good standings with the Alberta Golf Association (A.G.A.) and the Royal Canadian Golf Association (R.C.G.A.). Opportunities to join are on a "first come first serve basis"

Don't have an official handicap? Join the club and get one.

The club has a 2-1/2 hour block booking every 2nd Saturday during the summer at Maple Ridge Golf Course (last years green fees were $44.00 for 18 holes) so during that block booking time Maple Ridge Men's Club members will be teeing off in foursomes. Its a lot of fun. They always try and arrange some kind of competition between the members, whether it be Best Ball, Yellow Ball, 4 Man Cha Cha, Open Handicap, or something else.

And also, every year for the season, we have two Match Play competitions amongst members (one for those under a 15 handicap and one for those with a handicap of 15 and higher).

P.S. Maple Ridge golf course is the best city owned course in Calgary. It is also very difficult to get a booking on a Saturday during prime time.

PPS. I forgot to mention that the block booking is Saturday mornings, usually starting at 7-7:30, so usually, even if you are in the last tee-time (sometime around 9:30), you are usually finished by 2:00 pm at the latest.

Can you provide more information about the club? What benefits do members get exactly after paying the $75 annual fee besides the small blocked off window for bookings? From what I can tell, isn't Maple Ridge regular rate for 18 holes $44?

Basically, your membership fee goes towards prizes and the year-end awards banquet. The club gets to block book a 2-1/2 hour period every second Saturday morning for club play. These are prime time tee off times.

Thus, because you are a member, you don't have to spend forever on the phone trying to get through to book a tee-off time on a Saturday morning. Anyone who has ever tried to book a tee time for Saturday morning knows how frustrating that can be.... Get up at 6:00 am on a Wednesday....dial, busy signal, hang up, dial again, busy, hang up, dial again.... etc. etc.
You just have to let the club know that you want to play that Saturday and they will put your name on the list of players playing that day.

Also, the fee pays for your membership in the RCGA, where you can record your scores on-line and it calculates your handicap. I think you also get a RCGA rule book.

So when is the list of people going to be added on the waiting list? I have emailed the guy in charge of memberships a couple of weeks ago and he said the list should be updated soon.

The website says it will be updated every 2 weeks with people on the waiting list
