Playfair holds closed door meeting...
Quote:

Word on the street is #AHLHeat head coach Jim Playfair controlled the closed-door meeting post-game, and it wasn't necessarily a tea party..
|
This was a result of last night's loss against the Peoria Rivermen 5-1.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period. Then everything fell apart at the start of the second period.
What's interesting, but probably not of any concern, is that JP Lamoureux started the first minute of the the second period. Irving was not on the bench. Then once he came back he went back into net, but soon after let in two very quick goals and everything fell apart from there.
IMO this meeting was long overdue. Far too few goals being scored. Far too games being given up in the last few minutes of the game. This team is far too young to start developing bad habits and this is the right move by Playfair to correct things before the Heat find themselves out of the playoff race.

Playfair needs to go... he's obviously not getting the job done. Calgary should have just let him go instead of sending him to the minors. What a joke.

Its odd how its fine to hate on Brent Sutter, but when someone hates on Playfair they are apparently wrong.

I've never actually seen Beerfest do whatever he does for a living. But he sucks at it.
I mean, I've seen his posts on the internet, and it just looks to me like he doesn't spend enough time really getting his nose down to the grindstone.

It was pretty slick play too. He circled the entire zone on the PP and from behind the net gets the puck to Rheault for a one timer. 2 guys were chasing him around the zone.

Its "fine" to hate on Brent Sutter when done so using reason, examples etc.
When people complain about Playfair despite not watching the games and coming up with gems such as "well the Heat don't score enough so Playfair must be bad" that is when people have an issue.
There have been enough posters on here (one in particular) who whine about Playfair and then when asked to give reasons come up completely empty or just avoid the question. That is what people get annoyed with.

For a guy coaching a bunch of kids with little-to-no pro experience, I think Playfair's doing great. He himself admitted that the biggest challenge would be teaching consistency to such a young group. Arguably their most consistent player has been their goalie - one of the more experienced pro players (a greybeard at 22).

Maybe I'm not understanding. And without looking through the Heat roster I could be wrong...
But off the top of my head, Greg Niemsz and Kris Chucko are the only recent 1st round picks that come to mind for good scoring talent.
We are the youngest team in the AHL with 2 decent scoring prospects home-drafted. Everyone else is a grinding type lower pick or an undrafted FA. Same goes for the defence. The only consistant position is in net.
The youngest, no talent team in the AHL and he has them in playoff position.... I think he needs a raise before beng fired

I agree for the most part, although he does have more talent on his team than you think. The problem is that his best scorers and playmakers seem to be injured a lot (except Nemisz). He's got some good defensive prospects to work with, but even there 1/2 of his healthy top 4 are regularly injured. I think he's done a fantastic job overall as a result.

Not sure, but last night the commentators were saying they were the second youngest.
