Default Low oil pressure

So I was driving my truck this morning (2007 Sierra - gas) and the low oil pressure light came on and the needle was pretty much all the way to the left. I pulled it over, noticed no leaks and oil level was normal. I started it back up and the same thing - no oil pressure, but oil temperature was in the normal range. Took the 10 km trip back home, let it sit for an hour and started it back up again. This time the pressure and temperature were both where they should be and I had no issues on my trip to High River and back. Am I looking at a faulty sensor or am I risking driving around at all right now?

You are risking driving it around.

Not sure on that specific engine, but if the oil pump stops or pressure drops drastically, hello seized engine or internal damage. The oil level and temp will probably still read normal even though there is no oil flowing. Could be a sensor, but until you know for sure, don't drive it when it says there is low pressure.

Probably under warranty still? If so, take it to the dealer.

In my experience, the worst thing that can happen to your vehicle is to see the oil light. Do not drive it, as your engine could be killed. I have seen the death of two engines in older trucks, even though I stopped both times the oil light came on.

Get it checked out.

Between me and my friends who share tools, we have a car computer code reader. It has been a handy device to have around.

So unless you are able to ask the computer itself what the reason for the error was, take it into the dealer; or a mechanic who has full diagnostics. I'd still go for the dealer though.

No warranty left - I'm over 100k already. Guess I should take the day off and get it checked out. Can't work without my truck.
