Default Pros/Cons of living in the community of Sherwood (NW Calgary)

Considering on purchasing a house in Sherwood in NW Calgary.
If there any current/past resident, can you tell me the pros/cons of Sherwood.

I've looked up the future transportation network of the area and found that the existing access off Shaganappi Tr will be gone in the future and the future access will be off Sarcee Trail.

Thanks,

Watch out for outlaws!

Actually I guess that only applies if you're rich.

One huge con is that you'd be living in the knee

edit: looks like its in the NW.....so be weary of the dirty NE gypsies trying to take over your land

The access from Shag might stay now that Shag isn't going to be an expressway North of Stoney.

Don't quote me on that though.

You'll spend alot less money on booze when you go downtown because you have to save ~$50 for a cab ride home.

The NW is buttery soft compared to the NE.

Pros: Beautiful new communities, You'd be surrounded by money, so I'm guessing low crime. Area is starting to fill out with businesses. Has come a long ways in the last 3-5 years, though it used to just be houses surrounded by piles of dirt.

Cons: You won't be close to anything that isn't a franchise. Mindless sprawling suburbia. Few feeder roads, shagganappi doesn't get too bad (that I've seen), but Country hills is a deathwish to commuters. Far from Downtown.

You'll enjoy the sunsets through the security bars on your windows.

/green text!

I know nothing about Sherwood besides that it's in Cochrane.

White text hides all!

The whole "new community = less crime" is a farce. In fact since the majority of the community is full of relatively affluent couples with disposable income who are not home during the days, it pretty much presents a giant bullseye for a B&E.

I know a couple who recently got burgled in Panorama Hills which would be a comparable new community. The Police actually said that since most people in the neighbourhood are new, no one knows their own neighbours, so reports of break ins by neighbours rarely happen since no one knows who should be there and who shouldn't.

Cookie cutter new communities are not for me.

Not sure why everybody is saying this area is full of crime, it isnt. It is right by Hamptons and Edgemont, two relatively crime free neighbourhoods

Pros: 5 minute drive to Beacon Hill and plenty of shops, such as Costco, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Sportchek and the Brick just too name a few of the big ones. Nice community with plenty of nice neighbours. Close to Shaganappi, Stony Trail and Country Hills Blvd.

Cons: A bit out from any LRT stations or Downtown. About a 25 minute drive not during rush hour. The entry points to the community are constantly used to flow traffic to and from Costco which could get annoying. By the dump although i doubt you can smell it. Not sure if wind blows garbage down on a bad day.

Driving to downtown will be easier than from the deep South. Transit will suck from there. You have easy access to the mountains. You have easy access to the airport. You're close to the dump You're close to the spy hill correctional center.

Anyone who thinks that any community is "relatively crime free" is naive or needs to reconsider their definition of crime. Crime, on all spectrums, is in every community in Calgary...from gangbangers to white collar crime to juvenile delinquency...is in every community to some extent.

And in regards to Sherwood, I'd hate to have a westerly wind with the dump exactly due west of you.

Chinooks come from the west right?

And as for crime, you are spot on, it is in every community in the city, some more than others of course. Growing up in Hawkwood, there were several grow ops and a chop shop broken up by the police over the years. You just never know.
